DAVE1562
Hi all....due to a lot of interest of a bit of help request for info on exeter central in prototype blog, i thought i would post this build,it is an N gauge layout being built by our club(Junction 72A mrc) of Exeter Central....it is approx 16 feet long and 8 feet wide, baseboards have been made to come apart in 8 sections(for exhibitions) and track has been partially/temporarily laid at this time,as far as i know it will be dcc!... here are a few pictures...... view looking up through the station (from queen street) showing its 4 mainlines, bays and goods yard track to be laid, new north road bridge(template) can be seen in the distance. This corner will be used as a 6 track fiddle yard long enough to hold 10 coach trains,2 mainlines run down the middle this where we have a scenic break, this is the direction out towards exeter st davids rear of layout showing the 2 mainlines, the vacant space to its right will be 72A engine sheds, its turntable and carriage sheds view looking at where St James will be view looking back towards central and new north road, this is the large junction to access bays and carriage shed, lots of pointwork to fit yet!! i will post more as the build comes together ...dave Edited January 15, 2014 by DAVE1562

DAVE1562
Here are some more progress pics from tonights meeting....please excuse the lighting as they are not very good in the club room. fiddle yards, main lines are the two center two... looking towards st james ... north road bridge and its junction....at the minute the bridge is a template for positioning. near the light is where the cattle dock is positioned, the space where the pile of loose track is will be the carriage sidings....(this section is my build ) looking towards north road bridge and exeter central position lines....Exmouth bay platform on the left, the two r/h lines is the other bay and line leading to the sidings just past the toolbox! droppers and main buz wiring are just being started......

DAVE1562
Thanks Bob... Ben,at the moment there are around 4 of us been track laying and wiring who have the skills but other n gauge members have helped with the boards as required, each member has a different level of knowledge and practical skill which we all try to share and pass on to each other, in all about a third of the club are n gauge. stivesnick
Hi Dave Great idea for a layout. Are you planning to use DCC and will you be running proper Atlantic Coast Express trains that split / join sections at the stations? An operation just made for DCC and Dapol easy-shunt couplers. DAVE1562
Hi Nick, the layout is fully dcc, the main bus is installed and droppers to allow us to run, more track work is needed on the station sidings, carriage sheds and at some point (long way off) exmouth jcn shed(72A)... the track plan is based on the prototype of exeter central around 1940 ish with a few very minor changes for operational reasons and so we can use off the shelf track(code 80 streamline)... we have used the double cross over...so yes with a coupling change to stock it can be done, i have a full 8 coach rake of br/southern coaches which looked impressive running around and a farish b of b (spitfire) is being chipped as we speak... i am looking forward to the release of dapols new unrebuilt/rebuilt versions for better detail...as more work is completed i will post some more pics....
