ixionmodels
Hi all, I am interested in observations and comments on the quality and build-ability of the Garden Railway Specialists freelance narrow gauge electric loco kits for 45mm gauge - I assume they are to 16mm scale. From the catalogue, my own interest is in the DG280 NE 0-6-0 tank loco to go on the G125 chassis, and the DG285 freelance mogul which appears to have the L&B 2-6-0 chassis underneath it. Do they fit together well? That is, is much fettling required to put them together? Do the chassis run smoothly? Are they good candidates for detailing, to bring them up to close-up exhibition viewing standard? I'm unable to visit GRS to see for myself as I live in Australia! So any and all feedback would be greatly valued. Cheers, Lindsay.
GW57
Hi, Lindsay , I have built both the open and cabbed hunslet and they both went together very easy. You can make them into very good models. In both cases I used the GRS 0-4-0 chassis and they are excellent! Regards Richard
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted January 12, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 12, 2014 They are decent kits but it's a selection of flat parts in many of them for the body, no locating lugs, so you do need to have squares or blocks to get the seams flush. They are definitely capable of being upgraded into very good models with a few extra details.
81A Oldoak
Please help and encourage my friend and Ixion partner, Lindsay O'Reilly. He is at a very critical turning point in his life when he may actually build a model railway. Regards, Chris
