Theakerr
As referenced in Wright writes, attached are a series of photographs showing how I eliminated the gap between the body and the Cartazzi bogie on the V2. FYI, when I was trying to track down where I got the axle box castings from (Comet Models) I came across this site http://www.derob.co.uk/v2cartazzi.html Basically, I split the original bogie so that I could work on it, cut of the cast steps and a chunk of the frame and then ground down the outside to remove as much of the cast surface as possible but still leave enough to support the wheel axle. I then fabricated the sides from plasticard using a bit of heat to bend the front in and glued the axle boxes to the card. The front steps were a modified etch I had left over from some previous stuff but could have been made from plasticard.
Horsetan
Just the oversize smokebox and boiler to deal with now.......!
Theakerr
Yup, but since my interest is in watching trains go by I can live with the other "issues".
Theakerr
By the way, I don't want to take credit for this idea. Basically the idea came from this or another forum back in about 2009. My pictures are just to show how I did it.
Silver Sidelines
Oh you should - take some credit - for getting on and doing it. By the way, I don't want to take credit for this idea. Basically the idea came from this or another forum back in about 2009. My pictures are just to show how I did it. I have been wracking my brain all evening because I remember DEROB telling me of his intention to make his etched Cartazzi upgrade. I have just remembered that I was responding to his eBay auction where I bought some Bachmann V2 parts. At the time I was puzzled as to why he was offloading apparently useful items. His response was that with his new etched design the original items were not needed. I like the simplicity of your approach. Regards Ray
davidw
What track radius will this traverse?
bluebottle
What track radius will this traverse? Theakerr? I'd be interested to know too, please.
Theakerr
Sorry, replied to question on a pm. Anyway here is the response: The smallest radius curve on my main line is about 30", but I went back and ran it through a set of Peco small radius (24" radius) points and it went through those OK. I also ran it through a pair of medium radius points (nominal 36"radius) set up as a crossover, i.e straight to left curve then right curve then straight again, and it goes through that combination OK. So, after much prattling I can say it goes through 24" radius curves OK and I would guess probably as low as 20".
bluebottle
Thanks for that; I know that the old Bachmann V2 takes a lot of stick, but I'm fond of the old thing. Now that you've given me a lead, I've got no excuse for not giving her a decent backside! Edit: added smiley.
