The Scania is just about done now, it just needs a coat of matt to tone down the trailer. The number plate and logo were printed on clear decal paper on the inkjet printer.

The rear end of the trailer, showing the straps for holding the Sliderflex canvas cover shut. These are cut from Tamiya masking tape, superglued to the model with the ratchet painted on with grey paint. The rear part of the chassis is off a Japanese donor model that also donated the side under run bars and landing legs along with wheels for a future project.

Finally a before and after showing where the model began

Another project has been the Transit. A plain white Oxford model, I painted the bumpers and wheels various grey shades to remove the toy like black finish. Humbrol washes were applied to panel lines and grill detail etc, then transfers applied and a coat of matt varnish. It just needs a bit of dry brushing to finish it off now, around the wheels and lower sides

A new project based on the Oxford Diecast artics.

I knocked up the roller shutter on the Silhouette and robbed the wheels from another model to replace the wheels that went under the steel coil trailer done earlier. The rear door detail was sanded off then the rear shutter assembly superglued on. The body side framing is just Evergeen strip

Surprisingly ride height seems about right. If it does need packing, then a thin piece of plastic should do the job

I've been working on a tractor unit to go with the trailer.

I cut some side skirts out on the silhouette to represent the type fitted to most more recent R series Scanias. The images below show the two types side by side (much filing was needed to give the clearance to allow them to be fitted) as well as the side exit custom exhausts I've made from some brass tube, coated in solder then varnished.

I've got a load of etched spotlights to go on the cab as well, to give it a nice custom look.

It's been a wee while since the last post, things haven't stood still but the last year or so has been busy at work, along with other pressures on my free time. The last few months things have got better so I've been able to partake in some more modelling of late.

First up, here's the Scania from the previous post, probably completed spread over 12 months or so. I didn't realise I hadn't posted the finished item on the thread.

Transfers are Crafty Computer Paper, printed on the home inkjet and etched lights are from FKS Modellbau via DM Toys. The white wheel centres help give the custom look to the truck, along with the side exit exhausts and body colour bumpers, side skirts and wheelarches.

Secondly, a little project I've been doing based on lorries I've seen whilst driving to work. Being Wiltshire born (almost!) and bred, the flag on the trailer is a touch I really like on this local livery.

Here's a link to the real thing, pulling a plain white trailer though https://www.flickr.com/photos/82080912@N05/19035963316/in/photolist-fjkP7G-dkXm7W-iEgjqu-Cwgvhm-v19hG5

It started out life as an Oxford Stobart Actros, with the livery stripped with fine abrasive paper and careful scalpel work. The trailer is from the Ian S Roger Scania, with the side ribs all sanded off. This was then clad in plasticard (0.5mm I think), basically the thickness to flush up to the upper rave and rear tailgate width.

A new canvas top was added from tissue paper and PVA, some brass rod being used to add the centre bar that is present on power operated sheets. The transverse bar and side straps were added from plastic strip. The ladder is some etched brass, glued onto 0.5mm plastic strip spacers.

Basic painting done, ready for detail paint and decals. Please excuse the Mercedes badge, it's hand painted and a little wobbly. I didn't fancy cutting out a circular decal that small.

Finally some pictures of the finished item. Matt varnished, again the decals are Crafty Computer Paper printed on the home inkjet. The paint is Railmatch DRS blue, which whilst I feel it is too light for DRS blue, it works well here and more importantly, matched the printer ink without too much fettling. I'm really chuffed with how the wheels have come up, Alclad II chrome with Tamiya rubber black for the tyres.

The front lights are a mix of the FKS etches and some nickel silver wire soldered together, with plastic rod painted clear orange for the beacons. I know these lights should be rectangular, but they are tiny and modelling's all about compromise, right?

If I do say so myself, it doesn't look too bad in the box

I'm not sure what will be next on this thread but hopefully it'll be a little sooner than the last update!
