Mk1 Pullman brake carriages

Hi guys,

I know that no Mk1 Pullman brakes were built, but on the background of the packaging to my cheapo partwork A4 I noticed this carriage (behind the maroon brake car and in front of the standard Mk1 Pullman). What is this and how would I best go about modelling one? Does anyone have any clearer photos please?

Thanks

It's a Mk1 BCK that has been repainted in Pullman livery. The SLOA Pullman rake had two, one for each end. Good quality black and white photos are here:

We have a model of one of them that we run with the Mk1 Pullmans on Kirkhill, a photo of one completed side is on this post: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/1271-aberdeen-kirkhill-trsd/?p=950683

The one batch that both the BCKs came from had the water pipes on the roof in a different location to all the other BCKs. I changed the position on ours as I was also changing all the roof vent positions as well, you may well not be bothered about doing this.

Another option for you is a Mk1 BG in western region chocolate and cream livery. 2 of these were actually hijacked by the SR to run with their pullman trains, much to the WR's annoyance. :D

Also it was not uncommon to see the Bournemouth Belle topped and tailed by maroon brakes.

Hi mate,

Thanks for the info. The plan was to run an ECML steam railtour train c1990. I was thinking of getting hold of a maroon BG, SOs and a BSO with an ER running numbers but Bachmann ER Mk1s were released years ago and are like gold dust. The Hornby RailRoad ones to be released don't look too bad but I wanted a standard Mk1 Restaurant car (RMB or RU) but they haven't announced one so looks like I'm waiting for Bachmann to do a new batch of ER Mk1s. I quite like the look of that BCK tho - can always hope Bachmann consider adding it to their Mk1 Pullman lineup

What paint did you use and does it match the Bachmann mk1 - and the lining transfers or bow pen?

Thanks in advance.

Glenn seems to think that the paint was from Railmatch. It's not an exact match for the Bachmann stock but their two batches have a different shade between them so the effect is not pronounced. The lining and the Car No. etc transfers are all HMRS press-fix.

And, towards the end, by Blue/grey ones!

Another ask; could you couple up a Bachmann mk1 to it to show the colour match. I've had a plan for ages to match the Bachmann mk1 colours to Hornby 1925 and 1928 coaches for the Tees- Tyne Pullman and the Q of S Pullman. ie repainting the Hornby

Many thanks

If you can make it to Sutton Coldfield exhibition next weekend you can see them in the flesh.
