DanielB
Today I spent the day playing trains for a while before blitzing the scenery. Still need to add static grass, more bushes, etc. but the basics are there and I am quite pleased with the outcome so far. I am still trying to figure out how to represent the water in the river, can anyone suggest any ideas? Anyways, on with the photos, though unfortunately I had to use the flash as it's getting dark here:

DanielB
Update time! I've had the morning and evening to work on the layout, and this is the result. As soon as the warehouse building has the cladding papers added that will be the majority of the legwork done on the main board, then it will be time to focus on the fiddle board and get that all up to scratch before payday, when the backscenes, river and fiddle cassettes can be done. If I get the fiddle board done before month end I'll focus on adding the detailing to the layout. Lots of that to do! Pictures! Again, apologies for the awful mobile-phone camera shots, but it's dark here and the gaming room where I am working isn't particularly well lit. I've added a few photos with the flash on but it kind of washes out all the colour. Meh, one of these days I'll get a decent set of photos done (probably at TVNAM by the general public at this rate! )
RBE
Looking good. Try to avoid flash photography it makes models look bad. The top ones are much better. Cav
DanielB
Yeah, I know. Still blurry phone-cam photos though. I need a decent camera. Or I need to remember where I put my decent camera!

DanielB
Hahahaha, I wouldn't be so sure, I've still got a list of tasks as long as my arm Rob! Up to and including: Fiddle yard/switchback sidings board. Backscenes Cassettes A box for my DCC socket board A lighting rig Layout frame Legs Remaining scenery work Weathering of locos and stock And lastly - finding an assistant operator! DanielB
A couple of progress photos to keep the thread going whilst I ponder the soil colour issue. Apparently it should be more reddish-yellow if it's Louisiana. Not much has changed, though I have added the brick papers to the warehouse. I'm not sure if the doors are too big but I don't think I will change them now. Next is the fiddle yard board with a mock up of the removable module. This module will be a scrap yard but I'm considering a coal yard as well. The front track will be a dockside loading area, possibly including a mineral unloading area. Not sure yet. DanielB
I've spent this evening working on more structures for the lumber yard - a storage shed for the lumber, and some stacks of planks. The thickness of the planks might be a bit overscale for N but its the thinnest balsa I have. I've also experimented moving stuff around a little. I could do with some opinions though - which of these positions looks better? This: -or- This:
RBE
I like both to be honest mate. Looks good.
switcher 1
I think if you are delivering via centre beam cars, you need access both sides of the track for loading/unloading, so I'd say the second pic.
DanielB
Only one quick update this weekend as I have been busy with other things. A few pictures showing the progress on the removable module. Looooong way to go yet.
Robatron86
It's looking great mate. Love the lumber yard and the buried track on the extension board.
DanielB
Thanks Rob, I'm really pleased with both as well to be honest. Though I'm going to add some more sand to the scrap yard track so none of the ties are visible - make it look like mud and packed earth - hopefully I should be able to manage it. DanielB
Managed to get outside in the garden at lunch today and get a progress photo of my removable module. After the advice I received on the real colour of soil and mud in Louisiana I tried to make the mud in the scrap yard look more suitable than the darker brown scatter I used elsewhere. Not sure if it looks too orange - I'm thinking a wash of Citadel Devlan Mud might help tone it down some. If I can get this part looking right I will possibly try and re-visit the rest of the layout and fix the soil colour. Overall shot: Extreme close up: GOJIRA! DanielB
Tonight I had a go at bashing up a drum shredder from my scraps box. Not a bad effort, I'm quite pleased with it! I've also started a little scratchbuild/kitbash project - I wonder what this could be? Also, I thought I'd get a quick photo of the current state of Cane River itself - from where the layout draws its name. 3 thin layers of realistic water so far - with more to come. Robatron86
Love the drum shredder mate! Bet that was a fiddly pig to make. And that bridge scene looks awesome.

DanielB
I'm not going to lie, Rob, it fell apart several times! GWR88 - It's an Atlas GP-40 - got it from ebay for a steal. This morning I moved the layout from out of the computer room and into the layout room, after dismantling my old layout to make space for it. In there I have enough space to put both boards together, and as the lighting is much better in there as well, what more of an excuse did I need to take some photos? A Santa Fe U25b switches some gondolas into the scrap yard. With mocked up backscenes in place, I think the trees will hide the entrance to the fiddle yard quite nicely!
