Class 18 (never built)

The Brush shunter was probably this one

There was a Class 18 proposed - but nothing was ever built. I've seen artists impressions of a two-axle trip/lightweight loco in Railfreight grey, that may have been the intended class 18

Cheers,

Mick

I guess that given all the private builders had by then in the modernisiation plan produced type A or type one low power locos there was never a need for one, and always to have a spare slot. I wonder if a CIE class 141/181 from GM was ever on the cards. But given the reluctance/ lack of funds to buy direct from US killed it. Good to froth over...

It would perhaps have seen steam gen brakes on Scottish or Welsh rural lines. A livery of green bonnet and light green cab aka 14 and small yellow panel.  Would have looked good in a hymek livery with small yellow panel and white window surrounds.  given recent 071 in grey perhaps a railfreight verison with red frame would have worked.

Any more bright ideas

Mick,

Your thoughts made me recall the Thomas Hill  mid 80s plan for a 1000 hp "Senatur" -  a 4W super shunter - a bit of a bitaz loco with choice of engine, transmission on offer  the line drawing is class 14  Sentinel, but 4W limits traction/ axle loads/ brakeforce and ride like a .... add own word of choice - like a pacer is a polite thought perhaps. This came to naught on BR network.

I would have thought that a modern shunter/trip loco in the Type One power category would have been met by something's similar to the Hunslet "Blue John" design.
