phil gollin
. Having moaned a couple of times here that suitable models weren't available, it is onlyright that now that 3 have been released I praise the manufacturer for producing them ; http://www.ehattons.com/73438/Base_Toys_DA74_Trader_Tipper_Thomas_Nield_Son_Edward_Beck_Son_circa_1954_1964_/StockDetail.aspx http://www.ehattons.com/73432/Base_Toys_A011A_Dodge_Parrot_Nose_Tipper_in_red_black_circa_1955_1965_/StockDetail.aspx http://www.ehattons.com/73433/Base_Toys_A011B_Dodge_Parrot_Nose_Tipper_in_dark_blue_black_circa_1955_1965_/StockDetail.aspx The last two might ( ???? ) be suitable for anyone modelling the Film "Hell Drivers" ! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0051713/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9GRB1rUyYU . Arthur
Phil, who on earth would want to model the film Hell Drivers?? Oh, me..... The two Dodges in the Hattons link are not new, I've had versions of them for three or four years, now converted as above. They have quite a long body which I cut off just behind the rear axle. The tipper body on the Thames Trader seems to be much better proportioned. Edit; looking again it's the same body with four panels.
Pugsley
I love that film, haven't seen it in years! The trucks in the film were supplied by WW Drinkwater, later Drinkwater Sabey, which I think is now part of SITA.
Arthur
It's the Drinkwaters link which finally resolved for me the question of the colour of the 'Hawletts' fleet. Obviously the film is b&w but two of the contemporary posters show the lorries in red. These are illustrations rather than photos and are not accurate representations of the Dodges which puts doubts on their overall accuracy. A search of film and truck fan websites eventually produced, firstly, the fact that Drinkwaters loaned the lorries, and their fleet was dark green, and secondly, a recollection that they were green from someone whose father worked on the film. Looking at those on the Hattons website again, mine had a different body, same length but no panels and with horizontal ribbing, I know because I sanded them smooth and added the panelling myself. I can't quite remember how I ended up making that link, ISTR there's a Drinkwater sign somewhere in one of the scenes, which lead me in that direction. Les Bird
The film is (or certainly was) available on network DVD. The catalogue number is 7952619. I've always assumed the lorries were red because that's how they're shown on the DVD sleeve. Now I know the truth!

Arthur
Excellent, thanks for that jcb 3c. Anybody any thoughts on that tipper in the lower photo? The bonnet looks too long and low for a Dodge, Bedford A series maybe?

37114
A modern day remake of Hell Drivers is in the making, 8 wheel Leyland Roadtrai s are the tipper of choice apparently!
Arthur
One of the remarkable things about the original was the number of members of the cast who were, or went on to become, household names. Stanley Baker, Patrick McGoohan, Sean Connery, William Hartnell, Sid James, David McCallum, Herbert Lom, Gordon Jackson, Alfie Bass being the best known.
