squeaky
Well I thought I'd better start a thread for the Freemo Module/Layout me and my son are building. This is going to be a dual purpose layout, firstly it's a layout for my 15 year son to use in his bedroom, secondly it's being built to freemo standards so that it can be used at the Armitage Freemo meet in July. The era is going to be 1980s as my sons first loco is a Walthers GP38-2 in Family Lines CRR livery. It's 6ft x 18" widening to 20". There will be a Lumber yard and a small loco stabling area with a single engine house. Here is the plan So far we have the boards built and most of the track this layout plan has been through a few tweaks and this is the final plan, I'm just waiting for 2 switches then we can start laying the track. The track will be Peco Code 83 with electro frogs and it will be laid on 3mm cork. Switches will be controlled by servo with local push buttons and control via DCC. squeaky
Some progress on the Freemo build, the remaining switches have arrived. All the track has been cut and joined up. Next job is to cut the cork for the underlay, 3mm seems very thick!

squeaky
Progress update, all the cork is stuck down and about half of the wires have been soldered on, how long have I got........ I need to get 3 x Tortoise point motors to enable me to finish the electrics.
squeaky
Lots of progress it doesn't look much but all the track is wired, all 4 point motors are fitted but need wiring and then connecting to the Switch IT modules. The sidings that will later become the loco stabling point can hold 6 locos comfortably, well 6 geeps! Once the point motors are wired I need to build the control box for the local control of the points. This is what has been going on under the board.... My 4 year decided to add a picture to the underside to give me something to look at Edited June 15, 2014 by squeaky
Glorious NSE
Better than some wiring diagrams i've seen! Quick question Simon - does it have a name yet? I'm currently calling it "Hughes" as a working title, but if you've a name in mind let me know?
squeaky
Martyn, I haven't really thought of a name, call it "Sammy's Lumber"
DanielB
I like the look of this - I'll be keeping an eye on it.

squeaky
Update - The track is wired, the Tortoise motors are wired and I can control the switches from my DCC controller. All the track has been tested and it all works! The next job is to build the local control panel for the switches which I have made a start on, then build the legs. Its going to have a bracket on either side of the box so that it can be hung on either side of the layout.
Northpoint
That GT GP38 looks familiar.....
squeaky
Nick you are so right that is the GT GP38 that I bought from you Well here is the latest update, It has legs, it can't walk but it does have legs! The legs slot into a box in the corner, they have 2 cross braces and adjustable feet. I don't think I will get the Control box finished in time, so I have attached some switches to the side of the layout for local switch control. We probably won't get any scenery or ballast done before the freemo, but we are both looking forward to it.
Northpoint
Looking forward to seeing you both again on Saturday. Have a good journey.
squeaky
Update, the switches have been replaced with push buttons, one on either side for each point. All the track has had the side rails painted and a weathering, I've also added the hard standing and inspection pit for the engine shed. The shed is also starting to take shape, it just needs the down pipes adding and a good weathering. Next job is some ballasting... That's all for now, you never know it could be a finished module by next years freemo event! Edited July 22, 2014 by squeaky
trisonic
Great stuff! I think the “Freemo” group should have Kokopelli (the trickster/flautist) as their emblem....... Best, Pete. http://www.indigenouspeople.net/kokopelli.htm Edited July 23, 2014 by trisonic
squeaky
Update - The shed area has been painted and I've added lights to the pit. I've also painted the rest of the boards in a muddy brown colour. I've just finished all the ballasting of the track. Next job is to get some more buildings built, the next one will be the lumber yard. That's all for now Edited July 31, 2014 by squeaky

squeaky
Well there hasn't been much happening with this layout, but as we intend to go to the Freemo event with it again this year we had better get it finished! I have been buiding and painting the lumber yard buildings, the first job was to build a spray booth. Here is the lumber store after painting Here is the lumber office after painting There is still plenty to do on both buildings and plenty to do on the layout......

Northpoint
Hopefully Ian from the RS Tower group will bring Gillsborough. I suggested it to him when I saws him at Exeter in January. Hopefully, Martyn will be rounding up people from that part of the world. Edited April 8, 2015 by Northpoint

squeaky
This freemo module hasn't had any attention for a while, so I've been slowly adding detail and am looking to extend it by another 3ft to the right hand side on the single track. So here is the layout plan So I could just add a straight 3ft module single track. Or I could extend the spur that goes around the back of the shed Or I could have the top spur reconnect with the single track creating a loop. I was going to change the shed to a wagon repair shop(yes very small) What do you think?
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted October 9, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 9, 2018 If you change to a wagon repair business then more sidings for it make sense but maybe turn the loop point into a rear entrance to the shed so they can dump stuff waiting work behind in the sidings then drag it into the shed with a winch or push them with one of those diggers with a buffing plate that they use in a few industrial sites?
