Interesting.

Yes it is. I try to buy extra loco bodies as a means of increasing my fleet on the cheap. I'm quite happy to swap bodies for a running session as a way of varying the stock.

I bought green peak body D27 today as I didn't have a split headcode Peak and D27 was originally released by Bachmann as a DCC sound loco. As I'm on DC, the DCC/sound options are of no interest to me and are also rather pricey.

Excellent plan John!

What livery?

Phil

I'd keep the green and attempt to do as little damage as possible to Bachmann's finish - hopefully just a bit of touching up or respray where the seam line across the nose front is filled and the little details removed. I am of a mind to try scribing the doors - I have done this in the past on a Hornby NB type 2, and also scribed the seam lines on Peak noses which Bachmann omitted on the early models. Depends how much of a mess I make! One of the incentives to keep the Bachmann finish is the fine job they make of the white grilles on the bodysides, which would be difficult for most of us to match.

I should mention that the order I placed yesterday lunchtime with Peters Spares appeared on my doorstep this morning, which I think is pretty splendid service. As they combine postage I took the opportunity to scan through their spares listings before ordering to effectively pick up these bits and bobs post free - there's some very useful stuff in there when you look.

Thanks again for the heads up on these bodies.

John.

Welcome John

You could use the Craftsman doors that we used - http://www.craftsmanmodels.co.uk/cat.pdf DK17 and prepaint them

Don't forget the 55A shed plates

Cheers

Thanks for this, and definitely a good option. I've just looked up the relevant bit in the "Abbotswood Junction" blog and your collection of Peaks is magic. The early blue ones really take me back, the way that paint faded and looked a right mess has been caught beautifully - I've never been convinced it was a different shade in the tin, simply that it was rubbish when applied!

Yes my son James did a smashing job with D50 and D79

Originals on Brush Veteran's flikr - https://www.flickr.com/photos/59835095@N02/sets/72157628044675918/

The difference between the blue of the TOPs panel and the loco on D50 give you the tonal variation

And here she is on Abbotswood - 1min 20 in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06TPwf8px1k

Thanks for this, really enjoyed the video and the May 2012 one that appeared on the You  Tube recommended list as well.

I do clearly remember D6310 & D6320 at Gloucester as I passed on the train in April 1970, which were my first 22's - funny I can't remember what I did yesterday though!!

Best wishes,  John.

Ah yes - 6320 and 6331 were local but any of the 82A 63xx could turn up at Gloucester - memories are like that aren't they?

Thanks for kind comments John

What loco do you want to model John?

GSYP locos done are 1500, 1572, 1746 - last surviving GSYP loco IIRC was 1744 which went in Nov 1970, we have done 1746 as this one

Depends how picky you want to be re cantrail grilles boiler ports etc

Cheers

Sorry for not coming back to you earlier but have been on a weeks holiday in a hotter area ( Sicily )  30deg C and no sign of rain.

Would preferable prefer a body with glazing or at least a body and somebody point me in the direction of suitable glazing.
