Hi I am hoping to produce a N Gauge kit of the above Tool and Mess Vans, I am having problems find details of these vehicles so any help would be appreciated. Ideally drawings, photos and details of any in preservation or any other vehicles that are LNER to go with a breakdown train.

Hi, Tricky-CRS, I have the 4mm D&S kit of the 4 wheel NER Mess van, along with the 6-wheel Tool van. Unfortunately, I cannot just now access the drawings, but will post them just as soon as I can. However I have been able to take some photo's of the models which I hope you will find of some interest - please excuse the couplings - just have too much stock to convert to something more prototypical! The photo's start with the 4 wheel Mess van then the 6 wheel Tool van. First to be seen is the side view, followed by the under-side and then the end(the ends which are the same on each vehicle).

All the best,

Hi, Tricky-CRS, I'm glad that the photo's were of a bit of help. Sadly, as I thought, the 'original' wagon book by P. Tatlow, does not give either dimensions or drawings of these vehicles. Only thing of any help in that book are some photo's on page 151. However I've been thinking that D. Pinnock of D&S Models must have sourced the information from somewhere, perhaps it might be worth trying to contact him?

What I could, in the meantime have a go at doing, is to measure the 4mm models. I'm not quite sure how they would scale down to 2mm, but perhaps the measurements might be of some help.

Please let me kmow what you think to this idea.

All the best,

Market65.

Hi, Tricky-CRS, for Mr. Pinnock, the address which I have is D&S Models,46 The Street,Wallington,Nr Baldock, Herts, SG7 6SW.

The requested dimensions, which I've just finished measuring are as follows:

4 Wheel Tool Van(as described in the instructions)

Length = 27' 3''

Width = 8' 0''

Height at corner = 7' 9''

Height at midle of end = 8' 9'' - These two measurements include the headstock @ 1' 0''

6 Wheel Riding Van (again as described)

Length = 27' 2''

Width = 8' 0''

The two height measurements are indentical with the 4 wheel van.

I hope that this is all of some further help to you in your project.

All the best,

Market65.

Hi, Tricky-CRS, sorry about omitting the wheel base dimensions, I don't know what happened there! Thankfully Sasquatch has been able to give them to you.

Information about these vehicles is very hard to find, I don't really know why this should be. I do have, from the kit instructions, a list of running numbers. If these would be of any help, I can give out the details of them to you.

All the best,

Hi

The NER society published drawings for these in there journal some years ago, and I think they are in the NER diagram books which they offer reprints of via there sales service, sorry i can't be of more help but I don't have the appropriate volume to hand at the moment.

Andy
