upneysidings
My primary railways interest is photographic and so I’m way outside my comfort zone with this enquiry but RMWeb has, over many years, come up with answers to some of my more esoteric questions and so this is probably the best place to initiate an enquiry I’ve received from a Frenchman who intends building an ‘0’ gauge model of a Tramways de la Sarthe 0-6-0 tram engine or ‘bicabine’. Said gentleman is looking for an inside cylinder 0-6-0 motorised chassis with 28mm diameter wheels - preferably coarse scale - and 36mm between axles. Does anyone here know if such a configuration is commercially available here in the U.K. and, if so, from whom could it be obtained? Coincidentally, I happen to own some original negatives of the prototype that he wants to model and an example can be viewed here on my web site: http://mikemorant.smugmug.com/Trains-Railway-overseas/Europe-Scandinavia/France-French-Railways/France-5-prewar#!/i-4gG4Wp6/A Rgds, Mike M. 81A Oldoak
The Ixion 0 gauge ready-to-run Hudwell Clarke 0-6-0 saddle tank loco has 23mm diameter wheels and the wheelbase is 40.25mm + 40.25mm. Here's what it looks like: http://www.ixionmodels.com/7mm_hudswell_clarke.htm Contact me via PM if of interest.
hartleymartin
If you want coarse scale, you could always contact ETS - they make their chassis available separately, but you don't get a lot of say in the dimensions. Link to ETS Trains Chassis If GOG Fine standard is fine, I would strongly recommend the Ixion Hudswell Clarke mechanism. It runs absolutely beautifully. Hayfield2
Was this a standard gauge loco? or could it be narrow gauge? I must also add my vote for super looking loco Just done a bit of Googleing http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tramways_de_la_Sarthe#mediaviewer/Fichier:Gecomodel01wiki.jpg Am I correct in thinking it was a meter gauge or have I missed something in the translations http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tramways_de_la_Sarthe Do look at the photo collections as it is a very interesting line If it is a meter gauge would that translate to 23mm track gauge in 7 mm scale. I am just thinking that it might be possible to commission a simple chassis using re-gauged Gibson wheels.
hartleymartin
In O scale, meter-gauge can be represented with S-gauge (22.25mm) track from US manufacturers. It scales out at about 38 inches, so a little shy of a scale meter, but having R-T-R track and ready-made wheels makes things a little easier.
