Fan Wagon

Recommended Posts

Does it suck or blow? looks to me it will push the exhaust from the generator into the tunnel rather defeating the purpose of the machine.

If you are wise first determine which direction the natural draught is through your tunnel. Then set the fan up to blow in the same direction, so it impoves on nature. Running it in the other direction tends to just add to the fumes in the tunnel.

This wagon passed Manchester Piccadilly this morning, in a CWR train off Merseyrail Northern Line.

It number was JZA, NLU 93465

Thats quite a recent development, but it should at least get around the need for trains to run class 7 when conveying ADE 901720.

For the benefit if people who are not so aware of railway operations, ADE 901720 is plated for a maximum speed of (probably) 45mph. This is lower than the "standard" freight train speed of 60mph which means that any freight train conveying this vehicle is downgraded from a class 6 train to a lower speed class 7. This brings serious pathing problems and consequental extended train running times over busy routes.

I think that's the one we'll be using with the Grinder, when we can find it, no-one knew where it was on Wednesday - not at Doncaster, maybe Toton, no, dunno then, we'd best go home ....

Interesting - it looks like a fan unit on a container-type removable base - could they swap it to whatever flat wagon's available?

I was wondering if you crank up the fan to max, the wagon could actually move..therefore needing to be re-classified as a motive unit?!

I understand that one manufacturer did consider a model of the prototype, but modified it significantly to what you see here.... model.

Another version is illustrated here http://www.backwoodsminiatures.com/xaero2.jpg and yes it does work by prop power as demonstrated at several shows

It looks to me that the wagon in the photo is a recoded KFA of the TIPH numbered type, as due from Hornby, unless I'm very much mistaken...

cheers
