garethashenden
The prototype for the Airfix/Dapol lowmac is the BR version of the LNER version of a GER wagon. How much work would be required to backdate the kit to a c.1905 condition?
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted September 16, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 16, 2014 The prototype for the Airfix/Dapol lowmac is the BR version of the LNER version of a GER wagon. How much work would be required to backdate the kit to a c.1905 condition? Best to start with a drawing of the GE wagon to identify any differences. As long as nothing major such as length was altered you should have little trouble. The buffers on the original kit will need replacing anyway as those in the kit are a bit on the small side. garethashenden
This discussion may help although I haven't tried one myself as yet. Thanks. I was thinking it should be pretty simple but I was interested to know if anyone here had done it before.
34theletterbetweenB&D
There's a photo of one as built 1904, and two in service as LNER MAC K, and a drawing as MAC K in vol1 of Peter Tatlow's multi-volume LNER wagons compendium. Wheelbase and frame length of the kit are correct, but there is a lot of detail that could be added or altered. The drawing shows the decking as longitudinal throughout, unlike the moulding. The spoked 10mm dia wheels may be difficult to find.
