Hi,

The above picture brought a smile to my face - we built the same basic low relief structure but in 7mm for our old Hazelhurst layout! I don't recall the magazine that it came from (MRC?) - must have been some time ago! Ours was the home of "Spong's Leather Works", famous for the "Grip Tight Saddle", hence the smile!!!  Frecclesham's history follows a similar theme ....http://www.newportmrs.co.uk/frecclesham.htm which also has some older photos which need updating.

We will be there with the latest O gauge layout - Frecclesham. I hesitate to say new as this will be the 8th outing since it started on the circuit in February last year.

Steve,

.

The design for the factory premises came from an old (mid-60s) RM.

.

The drawing was by Don Townsley of the Leeds MRC.

.

The jumble of angles and roof lines makes it more attractive than more modern industrial structures.

.

I knocked it up out of surplus Letraset mount board, various Slaters embossed sheets and some surplus windows from several sources that will be familiar to many modellers, before finally raising it on Wills brick arches.

I visited the exhibition today with a few friends from my local model club.  What a great show, some excellent layouts - St Merryn, Fryupdale, South Wales Colliery and Frecclesham in particular caught my eye.

The free bus made getting there by train very easy and catering was also very good - bacon rolls for £1.44 :O

Popped into the Ian Allan bookshop in the centre of Cardiff on our way home too - a very good day out all round.
