Marcus 37
Just a quick query which hopefully I've posted in the right place. Is it a relatively easy task to fit a chip in one of these locomotives. Asking as I shall be getting one shortly, just concerned about ease of disassembly and room inside the locomotive. Many thanks in advance. Marcus
RMweb Gold RFS Posted November 25, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 25, 2014 I have 3 of these all of which have the Lenz Standard+ decoder fitted. This is a large decoder (same size as Bachmann's own brand) but it's not difficult to fit and you don't have to remove the weight from the boiler as has been suggested in some guides. The Lenz decoder is single-sided so it just slots into the boiler cavity face up - ie with the blank side against the weight not the "live" side. As the loco has no requirement for function output you can snip out the 4 function wires from the decoder, as this substantially reduces the bulk of the harness and makes it easier to get the body back on. Just need to take care, when removing and refitting the body, that you do not grip the chassis by the valve gear! Having said all this the loco is an excellent performer with the Lenz decoder. Marcus 37
Thank you very much RFS. That's really appreciated. That's what I like about this forum is that there is always someone who's willing to help. I'm getting the chip on Wednesday so I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks once again.
