Air Conditioned Mark 2 coaches on Trans-Pennine loco hauled services in the late 1980s

I was looking at an old Platform 5 Coaching Stock book from 1989 and it looked like there were 2 Air Conditioned Mk 2D coaches based at Heaton which were showing as being in Provincial livery and presumably branded as Trans Pennine

 

I don't remember ever seeing any air conditioned Mark 2s on the Trans-Pennine trains in anything other than BR Blue and Grey livery. Is the book correct?

That just seems to mention some air-conditioned FKs being transferred from Scotrail to those services, not second-class coaches

It was coaches 5520 and 5614 which are listed in the book as being in Provincial livery

gordon, posted a couple of links in the other thread - looked up the numbers and 5520/5614 are mk2c i.e. not a/c?

Ah!! You're right!! They are Mk 2C's!

 

I thought I was going mad there, so I went back to double-check it and the book is wrong, but not in the way I was expecting in just having the livery code wrong. It has them listed as Mk 2Ds, although the photo of one of them (5614) a couple of pages earlier is correctly captioned as a Mk2C!!

 

Well that answers that then!

That is a printing error.

 

5498-5615 were Mk2Cs to lot 30795 1969-70

 

5616-5743 were Mk2Ds to lot 30822 1971-72
