Hello all,

been a little busy, testing loco's.

I've given up trying to source suitable sharfenberg couplings for the Eurostar as there proving quite hard to get, Instead i've gone for a lazy option and used Kadee's.

After some height adjustment i thought it would be a great idea to test the train, pair of 37's with only one powered - one adapter wagon - then a 6 coach Eurostar.

All was running fine until the train started to climb back to the top level of the layout, the 37 came to a stand right near the top of the gradient, A little head scratching revealed that the dummy 37 was still very heavy so i've set about making it a little lighter.

Once the body was off its obvious i needed to remove a fair bit of the metal chassis, only problem is the bogie mounts are at either end so i decided to cut the chassis at an angle keeping the frame fixing's and also the mounts.

Before the diet.

10 mins later with the help of a hacksaw.

All back together, The chassis is quite flexible in this state and i had considered putting some lateral supports in but once the body is back on its quite rigid.

Pleased to say that after that the train now climbs the gradient without a problem.

Lazy coupling option for the Eurocat.

Do you know what EPS decals your painter used? Had a good look online and can find any.

Found these pics of the Eurostar being towed, alas the moneyshot is missing......https://railway-photography.smugmug.com/1/Channel-Tunnel-Main-Line-HS1/Ashford-ballast-and-Eurostar/i-BV5MLBQ

Hi LaGrange,

I think the EPS decals are from Fox Transfers, I know the Tunnel rings are from them so assume the Decals are to.

Hello all,

Finally doing some work on the bench, I'm in the process of repainting a Hornby 31 into Mainline Blue, I've sprayed it and its awaiting transfers but the roof looks wrong to me, does anyone know what colour the roof should be?

cheers

Hello all,

Just to show i've actually been doing something here is the 31 half way through painting, she's had bodywork, roof and front end panel painted a few times, a coat of gloss varnish and some of the transfers added, I need to add the cantrail lining then give it a coat of matt varnish before reassembly.

Hello all,

After a long period of doing sod all i actually managed to do a little work today, don't get too excited though!

My Pullman rake consists of 7 vehicles and i want them to represent the VSOE, I also fancied personalising a few.

Now these are by no means accurate, wrong bogies / numbers etc but i'm not fussed, as long as they look the part its fine.

First job was to give them all white roofs, i could have dismantled the coaches etc but i didn't want to damage them so all i've done is masked them with low tak tape and used

humbrol maskol to protect the finer details, once they were all sealed up a few coats of white primer went on.

All masked up and nowhere to go!

Looking all white to me.

Now for the personalising, Again nothing to exciting but i fancied naming the cars after lady's of my family, I've done 4 and just need to get new decals for the fifth as it got damaged.

so now we have.

Alice is the one that needs to be re done so i'll order the new decals this week.

I have got a lot more things in the pipeline so hopefully updates will be more frequent.

cheers

Hello all,

Little bit of work today, namely fitting Kadee's to a Hornby Networker.

This 2 car unit is a dummy and will run with two translator vehicles or coupled to a four car unit which i'm still building.

First up the body was removed and the metal cut away from the dummy coupling, once this was gone 2.5 mm plasticard is glued in place then a number 5 Kadee attached.

The gap is a little wide but needed for sharp curves.

In other news i've managed to source some Sharfenberg couplings for the Eurostar project!

Any more on the eurostar project/92's and the rest of the wb

Hi,

Unfortunately no, I'm in the process of rebuilding the layout at the moment so all work has stopped, the Mainline 31 is done ( will post some pics soon), second barrier wagon for the EPS 37's has been started, Eurostar hasn't changed. Have got a 4 car Networker which was started by someone else and now needs assembly plus painting.

Lots to do but hardly any time!

cheers

Hello all,

Next candidate on the Bench, a  3 car Thumper, I've been after a CEP trailer coach for ages and in the end i've given up and bought a 4 car unit to use one Coach!

If anyone wants a 3 car green Cep message me before it goes on Ebay, I've got a couple of suburbans on the way so work should start very soon!

Hello all,

Work has started on the centre car a little quicker than first thought, mainly down to my dad offering up two Bachmann suburbans as donors!

so.

Donor coaches ready to go.

Out came the razor saw and.... well... the end fell off  :jester:

End result, i have something that resembles a centre coach.

Its only had a rough fill and rub down, lots more to do!

Looking good graham how are you going to repaint the coach are there connex transfers for this ?

Stuart

To be honest I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet, it may stay in connex, possibly NSE or maybe even blue and grey? Who knows.

  • shanks522 changed the title to Graham's Workbench 4mm & 2mm

Hello all,

 long time no see...

I’m working away for a while so thought I’d take a few modelling bits and actually do something!

Also decided to add my 2mm stuff as well.

Working on some warwells at the moment and have a couple of questions.

where can I source the correct shade of MOD green for the wagons, and also a transfer sheet for all the decals? I’ve had a look at the usual suppliers but can’t seem to find what I’m after.
