I’m working away for a while so thought I’d take a few modelling bits and actually do something! Also decided to add my 2mm stuff as well. Working on some warwells at the moment and have a couple of questions. where can I source the correct shade of MOD green for the wagons, and also a transfer sheet for all the decals? I’ve had a look at the usual suppliers but can’t seem to find what I’m after. cheers Graham. shanks522
Hello all, I’m getting back to some modelling at long last. delving into 2mm finescale track For a new project, love the size of the point! cheers graham Edited December 22, 2020 by shanks522
shanks522
Merry Christmas all, I ordered a pair of these Arnold flat wagons which turned up yesterday, small little project I’ve been wanting to do for ages. A little respray and a few modifications I should be able to produce this. should keep me out of trouble for a little while, and give me a break from the track making. cheers graham Edited December 25, 2020 by shanks522
shanks522
Hello all, small job today, changing the couplers on my RevolutioN TEAs, nothing wrong with the rapido ones but I’m extremely impressed with the magnetic ones from Hunt couplings. Over time I think I’ll change all block trains over to these, original Rapido. Dapol Easi shunt (with damaged buffer!) Hunt coupling ( short version ) comparison between original and Hunt ones. makes a big difference closing the gap and they run fine round second radius curves. cheers Graham
shanks522
Hello all, continuing on the coupling theme, I’ve fitted some farish seacows with the magnetic versions and discovered mixed results, where they are quite light and have very little give in the NEM pocket theres a tendency to derail on tighter curves and even point blades, to rectify this I’ve added liquid lead, still a trial period and nothings glued into position yet but so far so good. I’ve also closed the gaps on my mk2 Fs. cheers Graham
shanks522
Hello all, I hope everyone has had an enjoyable Christmas, having a day to myself I’ve been tinkering with some N gauge bits. First job was fitting more Hunt couplings to block trains, this time Dapol IOAs, they be really do make my life easier! Second job was to fit a decoder with stay alive into my Farish Duchess, it was a very simple job which I should of done ages ago! Tender body off, once the metal load was removed there’s quite a bit of space. Wiring was shortened and neatened up then the body was refitted. I used some masking tape to protect the chip / electrics. Then filled the space with liquid lead to replace what I’d removed. A nice dusting of real coal over the top. And she’s in service! The one thing I’m very surprised about is the haulage Capability, so far she’ll pull 8 mk1s up and a 3% gradient on a curve! Very impressive indeed! cheers Graham
shanks522
Hello, latest little project. Turn this. into something that reassembles The coach has been stripped down, masked up, undercoated, and had a few layers of white, I’m in the process now of trying to match the First blue/purple with a Dapol mk3. It’s not going to be an exact match by any means but will break up the yellow of the test train. cheers Graham.
shanks522
Hello all, I had a good chat with the lads from West hill Wagon works at the N gauge show, mainly about lighter wagons throwing themselves off the track because the magnets didn’t have any play in them, I asked if they had anything to rectify the problem and voila they showed me there new pivoting couplings, some were purchased and I’ve started fitting them to some bulk rakes, I’m trialing them with one pivot and one fixed to see how I get on. cheers Graham.
shanks522
Hello all, nice easy one tonight. couple of passes with some Tamiya panel line accent to highlight the grills/doors etc, simple and works a treat. bogies and roof to do but that’ll be another day 🤪 Graham
shanks522
Hello all, Stay alive into a Farish 08, madness you say???…. well I watched this video on YouTube, thought I’d inquire if they could do one of mine, then I thought I’ll have a go, what’s the worst that could happen! 🤦♂️ I emailed Rich whose channel it is to ask a few questions, bought a stay alive kit from eBay and off I went. Firstly everything needed. next up, body removed, chip out, sizing up the capacitor. Attempted to solder to the next 18 socket which I found impossible! One wrong move with the soldering iron and you short out all sorts, not worth the risk! I emailed Rich once again and he suggested a new PCB with solder pads, much better!!! forgot to take pictures of the new PCB. Then attention turned to the body, I’d bought some milling bits for the dremel which made light work of removing material around the cab. Once tested and working ok it was time to reassemble, I did buy some liquid insulation type glue which had gone off by the time it was delivered, instead I used Maskol to prevent any shorting on the metal body. capacitor in the cab. Time for testing! I really am grateful for the assistance from Rich, without his knowledge I’m sure I would have a dead 08 sitting in the sidings, instead I have a fantastic loco that will negotiate the worst of track, dirty spots and dead frogs with ease. Extremely pleased with the results, now to attack all the other locos! 🤦♂️🤣 cheers Graham. Edited May 7, 2023 by shanks522
