This may even mean putting it one track away from the points when complex layouts are involved. ... and if you have a ladder of successive points ideally all the hand levers should be on the same side (which will also be the straightest side in terms of track alignment) as the idea was to avoid people have to walk across in front of a shunt whenever possible.
