dj_crisp
Hi I seem to spend an age masking, priming then spray painting wheelsets, then cleaning them.... faced with a large batch to do I thought there must be a better way! Is there any top tips for a long lasting finish to ultrascale n/s and black beetle/DCC concept wheelsets? Thanks Will
Baby Deltic
With wagon and coach wheels, I hold an air brush nozzle close, spin them in with, and spray. Takes seconds. For loco's I use a cheap Hornby rolling road and spay them running.
BigAndy
I hand pant my ultrascale wheels after testing them. Hand primer them first then paint with track colour, once the loco is finished and weathered, I then clean the wheels thoroughly with Isopropyl alcohol. You never get a real big build up of paint that way. cheers Andy
Xerces Fobe2
I hand paint wheels using acrylic paint and have had no issues.
The Bigbee Line
You can make a gadget to hold them and mask the treads at the same time. I think it used card with circles cut out. Painting them makes all the difference though.
dj_crisp
Sounds like hand painting is the best way. Thanks all for your help
jasp
If you have any mates in the Scalefour Society, ask them to let you see a short piece Scalefour News 189 page 26. As the originater of the article, I can highly recommend the method, especially if you have a number of wheelsets to paint. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find the device since a house move.
