bobster
Hi All I took these pics of the Speno Rail Grinder whilst stabled in the old Loco depot at Redhill in the early 1980s - The machine was working in the local area at the time - Does anyone know what happened to this Interesting machine - The operating crew (Swiss ?) used to sleep on board. Has anyone got any other pics of it whilst on the Southern Region. Also stabled alongside was this early P&T Tamper. Cheers, Bob.

They were (indeed, still are) Italian-speaking Swiss from the region around Ticino- we still have them visiting Eurotunnel every few months.
Eggesford box
That would explain the stories I heard when we had the machine stabled at Abergavenny, must look up the photos I took at the time. Various cracks made at the time about the Mafia and waking up next to a horses head!
