RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted March 27, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 27, 2015 That is a rather worrying report. VERY worrying some of the actions (if confirmed) mentioned, a few minutes earlier and a major disaster could have been in the news instead of us commenting on a (prelim) report. BR(S)
Is this incident comparable to the FCC one reported last year (minus the cab radio element)?: http://orr.gov.uk/news-and-media/press-releases/2014/train-driver-receives-prison-sentence-for-ignoring-safety-systems
The Bigbee Line
Not good reading.... We need to let things take their proper course and not spiral down the usual "he said" "she said" "they should have done this" etc etc etc

meil
It is this that I find deeply worrying: "Evidence shows that the driver and fireman instead took an action which cancelled the effect of the AWS braking demand after a short period and a reduction in train speed of only around 8 mph. The action taken also had the effect of making subsequent AWS or TPWS brake demands ineffective."

Bon Accord
Lets wait for the full report before casting doom and gloom and starting off supposition. Regardless of whether or not there are mitigating or exonerating circumstances for the crew in this instance, the prevalent doom and gloom as to the future of mainline steam is well warranted.
