RMweb Premium NGT6 1315 Posted June 26, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 26, 2010 Morning all, Arriva engine 183 001 - this class being an AC only variant of the Siemens ES 64 U4 type - has now been unveiled after having been given a rather impressive commemorative livery on the occasion of this year's 175th anniversary of German railways. There's a couple of photos on Drehscheibe Online's spotting board: Click. And Roco will be doing a model of it, too . Cheers!
Ohmisterporter
Wow! That is certainly imaginative, it gets a big thumbs up from me. Geoff.
Dudley Dodger
I disagree. It's a bit cartoony. And what's it got to do with arriva, if it's a german loco?
'CHARD
Presumably it operates one of Arriva's German routes, notwithstanding that Arriva Group is now Deutsche Bahn-owned!
RMweb Premium NGT6 1315 Posted June 26, 2010 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 26, 2010 Presumably it operates one of Arriva's German routes, notwithstanding that Arriva Group is now Deutsche Bahn-owned! That's it exactly. These engines operate interregional trains known as Arriva-Länderbahn-Express or "alex" running from Munich to Schwandorf, Hof and Prague respectively, with the 183s staying on from Munich till Regensburg and the next section of the respective trips then being worked by class 223 diesels. Trains to Prague are handed over to Czech class 363 electrics at Plzeň and were previously handled by class 754 diesels between Furth im Wald and Plzeň before the 223s were certified for the Czech Republic. 'CHARD
Nice one, I saw the 'alex' branding on the 'other' side of the lok and wasn't sure what its significance was

Arriva also run München - Lindau trains under the Alex branding : Click on the picture to enlarge it. It is currently in the 'Stop Press!' collection for new pictures. If it has gone from there when you try to view it, it will be here : http://ronfisher2.fotopic.net/c1856583.html
eastwestdivide
Not bad - we need more trompe l'oeil liveries. IKEA with a flat pack loco in pieces. Big diesels done with a picture of the diesel engine + generator inside. Freight locos done as if they were glass-sided wagons, half full of coal, oil etc. Passenger coaches with seats and people painted on the side. Time for someone to get creative with Photoshop I think.
Guest Goedel
Thanks for posting 1216 025! It's nice to see that the artist Gudrun Geiblinger is continuing her career in making trains more interesting. So much nicer to see celebratory art too rather than just conventional advertising. She has done some fabulous Taurus makeovers for the ÖBB and the Raaberbahn (GySEV / ROeEE). Her Mozart Taurus was absolutely fabulous... http://www.railfaneu...Mozart/pix.html
AMJ
I often think that the German and Swiss operators do seem to be more elaberate in terms of livery choices. Just remember the Swiss cheese livery even representing the holes. Talltim I think that you are reading many folks minds. At least they are only printed on and not 3D rivetts.
