Held annually, but it's moved around a little bit - was at the UWIC campus on Colchester Avenue last year but that's now closing (or has closed) hence the move to Llandaff. Prior to that, was in the Star Centre in Splott for many years. Looks like a great line up this year!

Cheers

I'll be there on Llanastr- please say hello!

You can bank on that Rod, especially as Marc Smith and I spent some time remeniscing and discussing your Llanstr (oops Llanastr), which has formed the ´basis´of a new urban terminus currently under construction by members of the Bay (Cardiff) MRG.

.

In addition, it´ll be the first time I´ve attended a show that I can walk to !

(Well I could walk to most shows if I left days, or weeks early !!!).

And prior to that Sophia Gardens,

......and where I first saw sound fitted US brass imports displayed by a company from the ´north east´whose name escapes me these many years on.

Once ´worked´ a Black Sabbath gig at Sophia Gardens Pavilion, and remember the night the roof collapsed and the locals nicked all the skates ! A few years later the site was flooded when the Taff burst its´banks.

I think the new venue of ´Llandaff Tech´may be a better proposition !!!!

NP Rob. Yes, there are a few of us in Newport. Last week we exhibited our 7mm roundy-roundy, Hazlehurst in Telford and we're now making a start on our new 4mm (S4) layout based on Little Mill Jc (just north of Pontypool as I'm sure you know). And members of the club will be helping me operate Llanastr at the Cardiff Show (I just hope the gremlins that bedevilled it in Wells don't turn up).

  • 4 weeks later...

Modelex will not be attending the show and in their place will be 'Finishing Touches'. They offer a range of modelling materials, hand tools, resin castings and their own weathering powders. Hutton is not a layout but a trader called John Hutton who is an author on Welsh railway history. Please refer to www.cardiffmodelrail.org.uk for details of the show.

...I'll be there on Llanastr- please say hello!

Rod,

I'm away, at Rail-ex South West, in Taunton, with Hendre.

Just wanted to say, I'll miss the Cardiff show (as it's my local)

but I'll really miss Llanastr!

It has always been a firm favourite layout of mine,

and I feel, one of the all-time inspirational small-space models.

Without doubt, it really has stood the test of time....

Glad you've dusted it off, and decided to give it another airing,

let us know when / where it's appearing again -

I last saw it many years ago, and would dearly love to see it again.

Cheers

Marc

P.S. To those thinking of attending the Cardiff show -

Llanastr is worth seeing (but after you've come down to Taunton first  )

And prior to that Sophia Gardens, I exhibited there a time or two.

I can well remember the show being in Sophia gardens....

..until the roof fell in, following snow, and a Stranglers gig!

It always seemed such a good show...

Ah, the memories

Marc :D

(vi) Sheep Pasture 'S4' (Cromford & High Peak ?)

I can confirm Sheep Pasture is definitely Cromford & High Peak.

I am taking a break from Barrow Road to attend this show so come and have a chat. Other operators at the weekend are all RMwebbers - Paul {Kempenfelt} John {Killybegs} and Craig [Craigwelsh}.

Imagine being at Sophia Gardens Pavilion 23rd. November, 1967, where, for the princely sum of 15/- (the top price ticket) you could have seen the following, all on the same bill..........

Jimi Hendrix Experience

The Move

Pink Floyd

Amen Corner

I'd go, just to see Britain's most underrated musician (and my hero), Roy Wood.

Marc,

Just noticed your posting of the 13th and thank you for your kind words (and for being one of the few who manage to spell Llanastr correctly! ). There are no other planned bookings for Llanastr and I'm not sure if I want to take it out again at the moment (I need to devote more of my time and effort to the club's new train set).

Sorry you'll miss the Cardiff show but good luck with Hendre at Taunton.

Cheers

Rod

For those attending the Cardiff Show and wishing to 'chew the fat' my brother Paul and I will be adjacent to the 'cash desk' with his 4mm scale, 48" diameter circular 'Castle Works' layout "L1" on the exhibition plan(featured in the layouts forum), but I'll also be helping out with John Rance's "Minster" which is in a ground floor classroom, "L9" on the same plan.

.

Please, feel free to stop and chat, don't think of the layout(s) as a barrier.

I hear the Honourable Lord Mayor of Upton on Severn* is to grace the show as well....

- hopefully there will be a full fanfare for this estranged Welshman (he lives over the border....).

If you don't see him, check with the lads on 'Aberdare', they will be keeping lookout for his Honour....
