  1. Greyhound Place makes a perfect backdrop for these photos, Chris!

  2. If you're expecting to get through a lot of drills, don't go to the model trade, but go to where industry goes... https://www.arceurotrade.co.uk/Catalogue/Cutting-Tools/Twist-Drill-Bits/Drill-Bits---Polished/04-08mm Twenty pence each! Okay, so you can't get 0.55mm exactly, but you can get 0.05mm either side in bulk. Cheers Paul

  3. I think the link needs to be oriented slightly differently: You could create a shed scene reminiscent of Kington, for which I have been unable to find a suitable copyright-free image, but this might be of interest. NLS map link.

  4. To print on tissue paper, I taped it to normal paper: This seems to have worked, and with a varnish, it is not too bad. I am hoping that it can then be set into shape by misting a glue solution over it.

  5. That is wonderfully useful to know. My copy of Atkins et al arrived a few days ago, so I will do some digging. In the meantime, I will try to track down some more Cooper Craft kits. If I have understood correctly, 71460 of Lot 220 could arguably have oil axleboxes, and yet have painted numbers? I ask because I prefer the painted numbers to plates; I find the plates quite boring.

  6. Dear Mr. Faffing, Whilst I fully understand your dilemma perhaps you would consider building 2....yes 2! fiddly diddly boards ? One for your want / need to have that elusive engine shed and water tower to attach at home and another for "On the Road" ( whenever that should be ? ) . You could then have the best of both worlds !!! Yours, A concerned reader

  7. Hopefully it will be, I need to wait for lockdown to finish properly before I can get the right gears and bits to make the chassis work a little better and get rid of the big ugly pickup underneath. If you want to know when it does get released, keep an eye on ts3dmodels.blogspot.com or this thread.

  8. From my reading of Atkins, the change from grease to oil axleboxes for iron minks took place during the construction of Lots 172 and 193, in December 1897. I've assumed that date applies to 4-plank wagons too, so 65815 from Lot 161 is a bit touch-and-go for oil boxes. There is a photo of 67389 of Lot 191 with grease boxes. Both the 4-plankers I've built that have kept their Coopercraft oil axleboxes, 71460 of Lot 220 and 10670 of Lot 355, also have cast numberplates, though 71460 might be a little early for that, as the earliest one with cast plates of which I've seen a photo is 73189 of Lot 287 - with oil axleboxes. I'm afraid I've become a bit of a number and Lot junkie.

  11. Lovely wagons. Triumvirate, eh? Now I feel the urge to build a quadriga, just for the name. Might look a little out of place in a goods depot though

  13. Looks good, those tracks are very effective. What are the metal? tubes fitted inside the hull?

  14. Following your displaying of the layout at Taunton Member's Day, and other than you wish to ease the operation of the fiddle yard and traverser, I would suggest raising the height of the layout by at least 12 inches. That way, no one, but you, will be able to see the bridge, let alone look through it.

  15. If you remember I used the highly sophisticated technique of plonk, press and hope for the best! I have to make a trip to the post office at some point next week so I will post you a stick with them all on.

  16. More often than not the eye is going to be following a train in or out of the tunnel, which obscures most of the opening. In the picture above the hole is only more noticeable because the sky is missing.
