Keith George
Regarding Pylle station on the S&D branch from Evercreech to Burnham. I pass through Pylle usually twice a week and I am always left wondering how it is pronounced is it as in PILE or PILL.? Also where abouts was the station in relation to the A road.? Keith. BG John
Here http://streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=361885&y=138852&z=115&sv=361885,138852&st=4&ar=y&mapp=map.srf&searchp=ids.srf&dn=721&ax=361885&ay=138852&lm=0 It looks as though the remains of the old road are just north of the petrol station https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.1462009,-2.5468963,3a,75y,4.93h,73.79t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1svKI5BpP0cnPZ2eM40Lks1Q!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 Carry on a little bit and it seems to go off on the left behind trees. It's changed a bit since I took these photos from the main road in June 1980! Can't help with the pronunciation I'm afraid.
RMweb Premium keefer Posted June 8, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 8, 2016 Geo-referenced old maps are available on the NLS maps site: http://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=15&lat=51.1455&lon=-2.5617&layers=6 Use the drop-down menus to see what maps are available and use the round slider to adjust the modern/old transparency
