The other one was an ex-LMS Duchess

Apologies to those who have seen the pics before (October 2010) but it seemed a strange coincidence

I too was there on 24th March 1962, day before my 20th Birthday. This is the Duchess "Sir William Stanier'. I envy Derek taking good colour pictures whilst I was messing about with art-farty stuff. Mind you getting pictures upright on the bellows sugar-cube viewfinder was an art in itself! The second shot was taken from the cab of the blue electric... post-6680-0-43469400-1333541903.jpgpost-6680-0-96438500-1333541904.jpg

Look at those first two pictures, the grey gabby mac, 1950-60's must have! Bachmann/Hornby, sets of figures in your ranges please, about 20 per packet! 46256 wouldn't come amiss either, sad loss.

Also, just noticed Pete Townshend in pic. 2 in a gabby too, The Who must have been in Mancs. that day/week!

Cheers, Peter C.

Thanks Larry for adding the photos of 46256 and belated Happy Birthday wishes for a week last Sunday.

I've always thought that this engine should have been preserved, as I've read that it was highly regarded by many of the WCML drivers. Still, I suppose we just have to be happy that we've got a Duchess in full working order, nearly 50 years after they were all quickly disposed of by the oil-sniffing management of the day.

All the very best, John.
