Industrial weathering and dereliction

As part of a work-related visit to the Bristol area line this week, I took the opportunity to take some photos of a cement works, that despite a modern appearance, has started to weather down, with rust patches and the like, and it occurred to me that this may be useful for anyone wishing to model a similar installation:

I also visited the site of a former fertiliser works, which used to be rail-served. This is the old terminal for unloading chemicals brought in by rail, now completely derelict:

There are just a few old buildings left on the old fertiliser site, which exhibit interesting weathering, such as this structure, which amongst other functions, housed the former loco shed (this site used to have two 'Janus' type 0-6-0 shunters):

A short distance away, off site, were these pipelines and valves (not necessarily connected with the old works):

Is that what's become of ICI Severnside works? I remember it in its heyday, when the exchange sidings next to Severn Beach station would be full of Vanfits of various types- I worked down the road from there at Tenneco's plant on Smoke Lane, Avonmouth in 1976/7.

The cement works is a mortar batching-plant, I think- the give-away are those white portable silos with red banding, often to be seen around new housing developments.

That's what I meant, having remembered the various comments about ICI fertilizer traffic to North Devon etc....

Yes, it was the former ICI works, now virtually levelled apart from one or two buildings and in a different ownership. There is a gas powered power station next door (which I didn't put photos of up, but which looks remarkably like the cement plant from a distance).

Yes the ICI works had 2 Janus loco's. I overhauled the Rolls -Royce diesel engines in both of them back in the Mid '70's. The loco shed also housed ICI's road vehicle workshop. I seem to recall that the loco's were named? What became of them?

IIRC the chap showing us around said that they had been scrapped... :(
