Some of my modern image projects...

Recommended Posts

Evening...

I have started this thread as I currently have 2 projects on the go that don't really fit into the modifying & detailing thread, so I'll put them in here intead.

I have decided to scratchbuild a wagon body for a Hornby chassis, to see if it improves the wagon any.

I started by building a box out of Plastikard, with lots of glue for strength (Word of warning...do it in a ventilated area, not your own bedroom!):

Then square rod was cut and glued to the sides at measured intervals , and I put it on the chassis to see what it looks like...

Not too bad so far!

Finally for this please give me your opinion on which you prefer, the cut down EWS mineral wagon or this...

YKA 'Osprey'...

I started this because I had a salmon kit in a drawer, and was spurred on by a Mr Mick Bryan's article in REx recently, I had also seen his thread on here before, and this has proved very helpful so far, and I haven't attempted the stanchions yet!

I started on the bufferbeams, using the buffers supplied and spare Hornby hooks...

Then added the solebars to the floor and attached bufferbeams;

Then started attaching the other trusses, and the piece of plastikard is under a hole I made as I forgot how sharp the knife was!

And all trusses attached, with air tank and strap box:

I also fitted the ratchet tighteners whilst I could,

Next stage will be attaching handwheels (The originals)...

once some goodies arrive in the post (Wheels and bearings and keen systems couplings...), I can do bogies and stanchions, then paint!

I intend to have a rake of 5 eventually...

Thanks for looking...

Jack.

Hi, just a quickie...

The Kadee wheels arrived from 'across the pond' today, so I have glued the bearings in place:

Next I'll paint the bogies and underframe, before attaching bogies and couplings, then deck and solebars can be painted to finish!

more soon,

Jack.

Thanks Tase, they are Romford bearings, purchased from Howes models in a pack of 50.

The wheels are Kadee 520 33'' smooth code 110 wheels, purchased on EBay from the states.

Charlie at DC Kits certainly used to stock the Kadee wheels. That's where my YKA wheels were purchased.

Cheers,

Mick

Mick,

I got them off EBay because for 12 wheels the whole cost (with U.S postage) was about £9.00....

I had a look at DC Kits website, and considering I will be going to no shows soon, the postage cost and wheels seemed a bit high,

Just my opinion, but I found the wheel prices on EBay were very cheap from the states because they are so common...

Evening,

Only thing I've done today is glue the axlebox covers on like so...

post-21664-0-48059500-1396208806_thumb.jpg

That's all I can do until I crack the paints out, which will possibly be this week or if not, then in 2 weeks... :(

...Therefore don't expect any more progress reports soon!

  • 1 year later...

I forgot all about this thread!

I've now transferred all scratch or kit built projects to my workbench thread (link in signature), so this thread will remain inactive.

How's this going?

I presume you mean the YKA 'Osprey' engineer's wagon? It's finished! This was the last post I made of it in my workbench thread:

http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/81813-jacks-workbench-modern-image-projects/?p=1646684

I've recently won another built kit on eBay too, which is in my WB thread.

All the other box wagons, and some new scratchbuilt projects are in there.

Thanks,

Jack.
