  2. Phil it was about time that this layout a mention and hats of to you for some excellent scenics and locos. More hydraulics please. richard.
  3. Great news dave, looking forward to the release. richard.
  4. One word Stunning, captures how small railways looked. richard.
  5. Please dont forget the westerns like all diesels operated in both directions so both ends could be called the front. It has been explained however which end was A and B end. richard.
  6. Can i ask is your hymek the latest batch or the oldest as the differance will be the old or new type wheelsets stopping her running if not the contacts. As for the Heljan western. The latest batch on testing a few are noisy compared to last years releases for an exception of a few. As stated elsewhere the lights are next to useless on dc operation but i believe the Bachmann warships to be to bright. As for me my Heljan westerns are on borrowed time with the release on dapols version although saying that the Heljan one with a bit of work can be a real looking beast and can or should pull a ton. Do thou check the wheelsets on the hymek as if the older either replace or give a good clean. B end on a western i believe was identified on one body side only by a bodyside latch under the engine room window. richard.
  7. Silly me. No sooner than i posted the above thread i found the information in my diesels in depth book of the westerns. D1005 did only lose them on b end only but as far back as the 24/7/67 so will need to be removed and was the same time she went into blue livery so within my time span. As with roof fan colour i have noticed D1013 carrys yellow ones the last time i saw her. richard.
  8. Have finally took the plunge and ordered 2 versions over the weekend but both will need the headboard clips removed as 1005 and 1029 although trying to find out wene 1005 lossed them as modelling pre 67-73.Any advice or info on D1005 wene she lossed them would be most helpfull. richard.
  9. No printed name and numberplate great idea. Can i ask about none fitted headboard versions and got to add loving that brakegear. richard.
  10. Even with what minor errors being noticed which i am sure will be resolved this is allready looking a great beast of a model.A western at last. richard.
  11. Any news or updates on progress with the western will be most welcome. richard.
  12. Some great storys and happy memorys coming through makes a great evening reed. richard.
  13. Modelling the BR era D1073 is a fine choice. I have one but changed to D1013 and as Heljan go with all the detail faults is still a western although the Dapol version is much awaited. I have also heard and seen for myself certain problems with the latest batch ie bodys not fitting and noisy motors rattleing around camshafts. richard.
  14. No contest with me. Class 52 western, followed by the hymek. richard.
  15. Any updates on what has been a all quite on the western front week. This really is a much eaglely awaited product to replace my Heljan fleet. richard.
  16. Not 1 but 2 class 60s noted going through peterborough today alas no damm camera. 60007 heading a notthbound engineers at midday and blue livered 60074 northbound hitchin-mountsorrel at 3pm. richard.
  17. latest batch seemed to have arrived at certain outlets. richard.
  18. It seems the latest batch have arrived at some outlets but not all. richard.
  19. I for one will be suprised to see the Dapol western released by may. If it was confirmed at this date then i would hold of getting a replacement Heljan one as done As D1013 and having to modify the baseball cap effect again and the lights are next to useless on dc. Heres thou to awaiting news. richard.
  20. Another request. Anyone else recall the westerns on the the westbury-leagrave/wolverton stone workings. photos most welcome around bletchley/bedford area as some of them at luton have been found. Westerns i believed run this sevice alongside named 47s for a good 4yrs and D1048 was the last in january 77.but photos seem to be like golddust. richard.
  21. How a western should look although of the beaten track visiting the nene valley rly. richard.
  22. Very much await the 1st production pics of this model with great expectations. richard.
  23. Sadly i regret that i lossed some photos of westerns in service during a move in 1983. I have only 1005/1010 and 1053 to show aswell as small prints of westerns at swindon scrap yard so your memorys of westerns and pics are a wait in gold and am still after all these years still hunting a shot of a 52 at either bedford or bletchley my 1st sightings of them. One memory and still heard 2day was my day spent at bletchley. Spotters were much in view and a shout came out Wizzo. We could here twin maybachs but no western. The sound was getting louder and then 10mins later all eyes turned to the london end up on the flyover and there she was a raffer grubby looking D1045 western viscount going over to wolverton on stone. Those maybachs still can be heard in my ears today and worth a note that 1045 was withdrawn a week later.D1036 and D1023 also turned up that day but the sight and sound of D1045 has stuck with me all these years and so thats why i still search for any photos of westerns in the area. richard.
