Hi Dave,This is coming along nicely and is shaping up to be a really nice scene to watch the trains passing through. Sweeping curves always look very effective. Will you be adding a “lean” to the running lines?

Jeremy

Hello Jez, I‘m looking forward to seeing a model of these!

A quick rummage around in the “box of bits” has already revealed several vital parts….including a spare Minitrix EW iv chassis with bogies!- 1

Not quite, the upper picture shows Z 573 (Z571 - 580), the other shows Z 590 (?) from the subsequent (sub)series Z 581 - 590.Here‘s a useful article on the different types of TPOs etc.:
Thank you Christian. There’s some info on page 38 on these. Looks like the overall length would be 12.65cm in N scale. The second series had flush loading doors whereas the first series had the sliding doors (looking at the photo). I may scratchbuild one of each for variety.Looking at the bogies, I may have to do some research and see if I can find a bogie wagon that has a similar bogie arrangement to use as a donor.
By the way, the first website you sent me has a whole host of photos on other Swiss freight wagons.

Yes, I think they might be the only variant running at present that does not have a model available in some shape or form (that from my mainly N gauge viewpoint as i have almost by accident, built up a large collection of Swiss postal vehicles)

.
Thank you Gordon. That’s a really good website and those photos will be very useful. It seems that one side of the wagon is different from the other which is unusual.

Evening folks,
I was wondering if anyone could help me identify the below postal wagon (screenshot from a video). I’ve seen these a few times in videos within postal wagon consists and I’m tempted to have a go at scratch building one to go with the rest of my fleet of postal wagons.
Any help greatly appreciated so I can track down a selection of suitable photographs. Many thanks in advance.
Best regards,
Jeremy

Afternoon all,
Been making some more progress on the ABB building this afternoon. A bit of tidying up after the first coat of primer which always reveals the imperfections. I’ve built up the little bits of details to the corners where the roof joins the sides using bits of plastic rod and then filler with some careful sanding to shape to finish off.
I’ve also built the back wall which faces the front of the board, this being in card and also some extra card supports inside to support the roof.
The roof is also in card and will be the last part to be glued into positon. First it will need its coat of off white paint to finish and then I can fit the large front windows, gutters, downpipes and fire escape. So still plenty to do!
A few progress photos….
More to follow soon!
Best regards,
Jeremy

Just worked it out! I'm being a bit thick! 🤣

Hi,
I cannot seem to find the answer to this on the templot forum so thought I would post here.
Just plotting a plan and I've added the background trackplan image and added my first piece of track but I cannot seem to highlight that piece of track to move it around. Now I've used templot for years and never had this problem so has something changed in the last couple of years or am I doing something wrong?
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Jeremy

It's been slow and steady on the modelling front here, mainly because the family has expanded which has been another wonderful experience.
When I have managed the odd 20mins in the modelling room it has mainly been on the fiddle yards, wiring, or general 'off scene' stuff. The lower (slow lines) fiddle yard will be ripped up and re layed over the winter. I did it in too much of a rush and I've made too many mistakes like not enough space between lines for fingers, 'S' curves through back to back points etc. It all takes away from the joy of operating, so I will try to relay it with reliability and usability as the main goal, rather than the current approach of trying to cram as much as possible into the space.
All a bit messy, but hopefully the photos below are worth a look for anyone interested in the development of the 'off scene' section of the layout.
All the best,
Dave
Hi Dave,Congratulations on your latest addition!
The layout is coming along nicely and look forward to seeing more as and when you have time to progress it.

Nice pick ups @cornish trains jez
The Re 450 isn't exactly suited to my planned layout, but I wouldn't say no to one either - it's a fine looking model! Would I be right in saying the yellow doors denote the earlier version?
Andrew
Hi Andrew,I agree it’s a great model and well worth having. You are absolutely right, the yellow doors were the earlier version. I’m sure I’ve seen this model in the Fleischmann range with the red doors.

Jeremy

Afternoon,
Have posted in my Gelternau thread but thought I’d post on this thread too.
Couple of new items for the layout.
First up, Kato Re460 in Swiss Post livery. Always wanted this one and decided to push the boat out a bit on the bidding to secure it.
Also picked up this Fleischmann Zurich S-Bahn set. Haven’t seen one come up for sale for a while and I got it for a great price.
Best regards,
Jeremy

Afternoon all,
Latest item/ of rolling stock to arrive at Gelternau is this Kato Re460 in the Swiss post livery which it carried late 90’s/early 2000’s.
Also, had this one a month or two now, this Fleischmann Zurich S-Bahn set. Runs beautifully and looks great!
Best regards,
Jeremy

Nice photo Gordon. Where would the loco changeover have taken place on this service? Assume the Re4/4 would not have taken the service from Paris. -

Agree - they look great. I doubt at today's prices they will be a top priority for me even though they are absolutely from 'my era'
A minor correction to your Roman, Jeremy: Re4/4 vi should read Re4/4 iv
.
Ah yes, I meant to write “iv”.
One thing I have noticed since posting was that the cab door handrails seem to be moulded rather than seperately fitted. The front cab hand rail seems to be a seperately fitted item so it’s a shame they haven’t done the others as seperately fitted too.
I think I’ll be getting at least one although I’d like all 4 of them! Might get into trouble with senior management if I get all 4! 😂
Best regards,
Jeremy

Evening all,
Photos have appeared of the Hobbytrain Re4/4 vi painted samples and I have to say, these look absolutely stunning. Photos below from the Lemke Facebook page today.

Hi Gordon,
I’ve always enjoyed seeing photos of your layout. The catenary portals look really effective. I haven’t had experience of the N Train ones and was thinking of adding one or two to my layout. I might look into the Rhb ones.

Taking shape nicely 👍. They really do look the part. I envy your scratch building skills.
All the best,

Thanks Dave! It’s been a bit fiddly to put together so far. I’ve learnt a fair bit so hopefully I can apply this to the next one. Just need to finish off with the contact wire beams and tensioners and then I can move on to the next one. Will paint and weather both gantries at the same time.Best regards,
Jeremy

Decided to finish off those bits this evening.
Next bit to do will be the contact wire beams.

Good evening all,
I decided to spend a bit of time on the gantry today and have made some more progress. The little lamp that sits on the tallest upright has been added. This was made using a small piece of channel plastic strip and then the ends made using two small bits of flat plastic strip and sanded flush.
I’ve also completed the top beams filling in the gaps with small bits of plastic strip so it looks something a bit like this…
So here is the model, still lots to do, not my best bit of scratch building but I hope it will be a good learning curve for the next one. It is starting to feel more solid now too.
Best regards,
Jeremy

We showed off a partly assembled in refurbished body at Ally Pally earlier this year along with a selection of other bodies and parts
OO wheels are 12.83mm, P4 wheels are 14.33mm and come with adjustable ride height mount
Hi,How do we pre-order a 50 with P4 wheelsets? There doesn’t seem to be the facility to do this on your website.
Many thanks for your help in advance.

Not sure how I’ve missed this one for so many months. Looking good so far!
The best class 50 out there (in any scale) currently is the CJM version of which I have 3 examples. It’s the pinnacle of the most realistic looking 50. Lots to live up to Accurascale!
Early photos of the Accurascale version are looking good but it’s the front end and cab windows that 00 gauge manufacturers have struggled with in the past so far.
Can’t wait to see the final versions emerge…

Afternoon all,
Making very slow progress on the first catenary gantry but here is the latest photo of it. I now need to add all those fiddly detailing parts……now where is that swear box?!

I’ve just caught up with your progress after a bit of a Summer break from RM Web and YouTube. The layout’s looking really good, particularly with the long straight tracks through the viewable area. And there are so many lovely, reasonably up to date, models available in N gauge these days - I might have once gone down that road if I could’ve foreseen the choice available, but then again, I find HOm quite fiddly enough.
Scratchbuilding most of the buildings will make your layout very distinctive, but life’s a bit too short for me and my spread of interests. I look forward to watching progress, and I find the sound of the seagulls on your videos strangely relaxing ((unlike when they’re trying to steal my fish and chips!)
The signal cabin makes for an unusual building. I don’t associate signal boxes with Switzerland but you have a perfect prototype there. Personally, I wouldn’t stress too much about the weathering (what you’ve done looks fine to me in the photos) but I would try to recreate the graffiti. I think that’s a brilliant, arresting visual feature.
Re the catenary, as long as your masts and gantries are capable of holding wires if needed, I think leaving them until the end and then deciding whether they are worth it is the way to go. My layout will be in two distinct scenic areas and I’m thinking of adding full catenary in the simpler, rural one, but not the main station, where the pointwork feels very daunting. We’ll see in due course.
Keep up the posts.
Hi!Many thanks for your comments. It’s all coming along at snails pace but hopefully will get there one day!
The seagulls can be relaxing except when they are making a noise in the early hours of the morning and/or have crapped all over our cars!
Look forward to seeing your layout progress.
Best regards,
Jeremy

SBB Postal Wagons

Afternoon all,
Ive made a start on the wagon this afternoon.
After making some dimension calculations and some “guesstimates” of the height of the sides, I’ve made a start in the basic chassis shape. I’ve added some plastic rod which will accommodate the bogies off of a Roco EWiv coach. Just waiting for the glue to dry and then I can drill out the holes and make sure the bogies clip in snug.
I’ll continue the progress updates on this on my layout thread “Gelternau” within the Swiss railways forum.
Best regards,
Jeremy
