  1. Possibly a C12 smokebox door from Finecast.
  2. Tinplate is relatively easy to roll, if I have it correct we are dealing with nickel silver, an altogether springier metal. You could try to anneal the nickel silver, but this can be a bit hit and miss. As you have already invested in a kit, don't agonise, just get a pair of rollers; they will always come in handy.
  3. There was at one time a Sharman/Precision Paint wheel.
  4. I shouldn't highjack your thread, indeed I was only trying to illustrate machine longevity. You are quite correct about the TU95, indeed in its maritime version as the TU142 it remain in production long after the B52. However, how about the TU16 that flew in 1952. In its Chinese form, the Xian H-6,I believe it is still in production. It's called a technological plateau! I will now go away!
  5. Who knows? There are possibly 2 to 3 WB-57Fs still flying, although with their modifications the only parts left of the Martin B57 are parts of the fuselage.
  6. Hooray; a British company supplying a German designed twin shaft turofan to power a USA Bomber.
  7. When it comes to longevity the B52H has already seen almost 60 years service with the expectation of a further 30 years.
  8. There is always a potential problem with the "ebay" motors; as whilst they may look alike they are not always the same. For example, the larger of the Chinese motors you have comes in at least two versions with quite significant performance characteristics.
  9. Sorry about the misunderstanding, from your experience can you recommend the LRM G5 as being an accurate model?
  10. This is very useful as I wasn't aware that the G5 was in Mr Kimber's range of kits.
  11. If I have remembered correctly in "Practical Model Railways", either September or October 1983, the late Ron Goult reviewed both Pro-Scales A3 and V2 . In his article he highlighted most of the problems, and also elected to go down the route of soldering the blocks in place. Well worth the read. Steve Barnfield in his much later article on building the V2 mentioned clearance problems with the leading driver, his solution, both with this issue, and the non symmetrical firebox could be of assistance.
  12. I am rather struggling with this, as I remember Ken Pelling showing me a prototype at an Eastbourne show in the late 1970s. His were marketed under a different name, so there maybe a distinction between his product and Portescap. Any thoughts?
  13. No merely an original NER type smokebox door rather than the later Doncaster? type. Great attention to detail.
  14. An interesting issue. It would appear that early J50s had traction tyres but also a smaller weight. Later - and this needs checking- the body was upgraded, traction tyres removed and the weight significantly enlarged to compensate. The increase in weight possibly aided with current collection.
  15. Many thanks for the explanation. I have a number of these units that I'm rather loathed not to use. My main issue with glue has been possible delamination when soldering and whilst using small screws appeared to be a way forward the price of 14BA screws almost made it cheaper to use Highlevel hornblocks. I have now obtained some counter sunk M1 self tapping screws that are a much cheaper option.
  16. It would be useful to know what adhesive you used for attaching the Kean-Maygib sprung units.
  17. All that is required is an insulated bush for the uninsulated brush holder. A simple turning job; if I recall correctly the bush should be tapped 6BA.
  18. I haven't been following this topic, but surely Chris is an assembler of parts - etchings, turnings, gears and so forth - and not the manufacturer. In his case is it not the possible that component supplies is the root of the problem that prevents him from currently trading.
  19. My wife slightly dented her baby (MGTF) gentleman who came to look at the damage just got behind the dent and massaged it out. Use something solid but softer than the brass and take your time. You can still finish off with a filer of some type, but remember you will/may need to solder within the proximity of the damaged area.
  20. Many thanks for that info. Quite frankly I find the quoted price quite staggering.
  21. I have just checked on the DJH website and can't find gears or gearboxes.
