  1. I happy afternoon devaluing an Ixion Fowler. I could get used to this holiday lark.

  2. It's SEABIRD flavour. And no, you can't have it in N gauge...

do you get wafers with it?

  3. Just arrived home after 2000 miles in 49 hours in a Triumph Dolomite. "Tired" doesn't come close!

Car was good as gold, couple of minor tweaks but nothing to worry about. It's an 1850HL, thinking man's Sprint ;)

Is this to go into one of the Bulgarian Maestro ex-CKD cars that made it back here from 1996-98?

    3. brianthesnail96

      brianthesnail96

That's what it was built for- so it's positively modern in spec- electronic distributor, unleaded valve seats, erm, that's about it. Never made it into a car though...

Excellent car! Had one for 12 years, most practical car I've ever had

  5. Back from setting up the Golden Valley MRC test track at the Bristol 0 gauge show, looks like it should be a good 'un tomorrow!

  6. Decision made- 00 layout put up for sale, diving headfirst into the exciting world of 0 gauge.

Been modelling in 7mm for over 20 years, best decision I have ever made ( in modelling terms ) Welcome : )

I admit to having dabbled - Impetus Hunslet 16" which Matt may recall!

I do indeed, although I had it in my head it was the 85A one.

  7. Musing over 0 gauge again after a weekend playing on Glos G0G's test track. About as impressionable as soft clay, me.

'Multi-Matt'! 16mm is the true way, you know that!!

Still got the 16mm! But nowhere to put it. The local 0 gauge group has three scenic layouts & a test track, and are based 5 minutes walk from work. And the Ixion Fowler is lovely...

  8. Challenge "reunite Dolomite engine and gearbox with Dolomite this year" a success- just! Happy New Year everyone!

Yeah, I had promised myself to swap the Landie body/engine/gearbox etc. onto the new chassis... No chance...

Stick it in the Marina, matt!

    3. brianthesnail96

      brianthesnail96

That's the next one, this was the practice run! No silly slant fours there though (it's a right pain to try and balance on the engine crane!), and no subframe to get in the way either so a bit more wiggle room.

  9. Has bought another Marina. This is getting silly (and has blown the modelling budget for the forseeable future)

I had a Marina Estate back in 1977. Best car I'd ever had up until then so that says something....I now have a beige Marina Saloon, in 1:76, on my layout during 70s era running. That doesn't work either!

    4. brianthesnail96

      brianthesnail96

My estate (bought because it was cheap!) got the ball rolling. I "fixed" the handling with a set of slotmags (mmm, 70's) and it's been a brilliant workhorse and refuses to die. It's being treated to a full restoration this year.

  10. MOT failure list not nearly as long as anticipated. No fails on corrosion, not bad for BL's finest...

'74 Marina estate. Somewhat dog eared- and didn't start first time! Was running fine last night, no such luck this morning. Jumped OK off the Swedebarge though ('88 Volvo 240, my "sensible" car). What have you got SHMD?

    3. SHMD

      SHMD

a 2000 ford fester. It failed its MOT on wipers and brakes. The brake pipe burst during the MOT!

    4. brianthesnail96

      brianthesnail96

Ooops- that'd be a "vehicle dangerous" sheet then, if they still do such a thing will the silly computerised system... Not a bad list considering though!

  11. Sat at home waiting for the new cooker to land- Parkside 16 tonner finished!

    1. New Haven Neil

      New Haven Neil

You're all heart Matt, getting Laura a new cooker - hope it's not for her birthday LOL!! NHN

    2. brianthesnail96

      brianthesnail96

Ha, no. Valentines day perhaps? Maaaaybe not. It's arrived, fitted and even works! Old one died, it wasn't intentional decadence.

  12. Hmm, would appear Parkside's "suspension" is not enough to make up for my cack- handed kit building skills- flat it ain't!

  13. Off for a tour of Gloucester Brewery, down in the docks.

  14. Replacement car sorted for the Mrs. Now to sort one for me, which should be easier. Then back to railways!

  15. Should really go register with the Quacks, so's I can book an appointment to get these stitches out. But it's raining...

Mission accomplished, without requiring a life raft. I did have to assure the receptionist that the injury was from the crash, not from the angry girlfriend when she found out...

  16. Might have written the girlfriend's car off a little bit. Wasn't on the Christmas eve to- do list.

  17. Sentinel-tastic; and in a Plymouth livery as well. That's changed the O gauge plans...

  18. Oops. Dapol 0 gauge wagon sat on the shelf. Looks lonely without an engine...

The well tanks are lovely (and a fantastic price) but they are a bit specific for me. Do keep looking at the Ixion Hudswell Clarke that's sat in the display cabinet of my nearest model shop. Would like to be brave and try a kit, some of the Connessieur ones do look promising.

  19. Lots of lovely 0 gauge stuff at Thornbury, with a strong local group presence. Very tempted to investigate further...

Sorry Mister Neil. It's great though, you don't have to do it in the rain!

  20. CH boiler more broken than thought. Modelling fund likely to suffer as a result. Harrumph.

  21. House tidying- can think of things I'd rather be doing with a day off...

  22. TOPS coded "Toad". That'll teach me to impulse buy...

  23. Splashing out on some decent chips has transformed my DCC experience into what I'd hoped it would be- ace!

  24. Appears to have bought a Bachmann Bill & Ben... hmm, what now?
