  1. If you've got a holding pool you may need somewhere for the surplus to go, it may be worth looking at options for an overflow from the tower to end up in a pond / watering vegetables being grown.

The water course from the spring/fountain to the chute could be recessed into the path, wooden boards lining a channel and the hobbits simply step over it, similar to those seen when out walking in the national parks to direct streams across footpaths instead of down them

  2. According to E.S Cox, who worked in the Derby drawing offices from 1925-7 the Midland had, "Adopted the American plan of separating the Motive power department in part from that of the CME., and making it responsible to the Operating department" This suggest that the two departments were more likely to make motive decisions before consultation with the CME, which might in part explain the top heavy civil engineers faction.

Dick I would seek out "The Gresley influence" by Geoffrey Hughes.

This is what I've picked up, that the operating department used to try and tell the CME what to design, up until Stanier responded with 'no, you tell me what your motive power requirements are and I'll design to meet that'

He then penned the princess and duchess

  3. Apparently NZ$75 is £38.53

I'm lead to believe the general cost of living in NZ is slightly higher than here but this was from watching 'wanted down under' type shows when we were considering going.

  4. Just wondering if that water chute is going to acquire some bracing?

Personally I'd go western style, a bit more haphazard stereotypical wild west gold mine than this pic:

  5. I'm told it wasn't unknown for draysmen to have a drink or two towards the end of their round, at the last pub being dumped on the waggon and the horse taking him home

Would be interesting to see faller make a horse drawn milk cart that follows the milkman up the street :P

  6. At privertisation rail track was regionalised which explains the NSE signage on the station

At privertisation a new company, NEtwork South East Railways succeeded in bidding for the franchise and elected to keep the livery and signage, saving costs which is what swung the bid?

  7. Thanks for the link, hadn't realised just how much billboards had sprung up! They seem to be everywhere in that image. Might have to go with a platform as there is no room for paving.

    Stephen

The irony being I hardly ever saw the huge billboards at the side of the road when driving or cycling, only when skateboarding as I face right!

  8. Nice,

The one on the hillside ought to either have a little platform for the guys putting the poster up to rest their ladders on, or a flat bit of surfaced (paving flags or a bit of cheap tarmac) to rest their ladders on down on the ground.

Hopefully this works, but this link to Google street view shows a set of boards I used to pass on my way to and from uni https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.403225,-1.526405,3a,75y,90h,90t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sJME2NYE9rStAnVcJPBYu1g!2e0

You can just make out the run of paving at the base of the boards

  9. As the inside of your water tank is plastic and many of the products require heating to melt them to a liquid state it might be worth doing a test with a spare lid if you have one to ensure it's not going to melt your handiwork.

  10. 2010121191141_Schomberg%20Tank.jpg but without the top and being a bit more open ended barrel shape

Some nice big, bulky metal bands to hold the barrel together, I imagine the local cooper would have made the tower
