  1. Thanks for the replies and thoughts. I'm sure there will be a solution, but I would like to know how the Dapol magnet fairs. I just couldn't bring myself to sit and weather all my sleepers, then cut a a load out to fit the magnet...just seems to be counter-productive to the detail game. Regards Lee
  2. Hey A brilliant and exciting development indeed! I'm very happy to hear there will be a 5 pack at a better rate. (is there a market for a 10 or 20 pack at an even better rate???? ) My only quarrel will be the position of the magnet. No way am I going to go to such length to get realism in my scene to lump a magnet in between the rails. I couldn't really hide it as a barrow crossing or the like as i'd need one beside my platform, and it would be just silly. I understand the underboard solution not viable with this product (my foam board is over an inch thick so I wouldn't even consider!) but what about just under the track? surely the 2 or 3mm depth wouldn't render the magnet useless???? In all other aspects, this product is sound, but I fear I'll have to wait and see it applied before I take the dive! Well done Dapol for getting this to market first!! Regards Lee

    The plank!

Deffo a backscene! Even if its just white card, then let photoshop do the trickery! Hehe Lee

    The plank!

Pretty impressive progress! Glad the foamboard came in handy, though you have put me to shame as my boards are still bright pink How have you weathered the rails? Are you thinking of putting a small backdrop on there? I guess if you got some stiff white card, you could photoshop a backdrop on....afterall it is a photo plank!!! I think I best get me a photoplank under way....I've been re-inspired! Regards Lee
  5. Looking brilliant! I'm always impressed at how fast the layout rises from the bare boards into something so detailed and authentic! Regards Lee
  6. Hi Loving the shots of the sealions! regards Lee
  7. Hey Its good to catch up on this thead. The layout is coming along brilliantly. Love the buildings as they come together. There is something very satisfying about scratch built scenes. Thanks for all the photos! Regards Lee
  8. Hi Thanks for posting. I was there on the Saturday, and did enjoy the wealth of brilliant layouts. Hedges Hill Cutting is a brilliant scene and Rosneath also caught my attention. I took both my video cam and my phone camera, but strangly didn't take any pics. Very strange for me, but it does seem the case that few photos from TINGS have made it onto thr forum.
  9. Oh, I do love DCC! :D

    Sharking

Looks stonking that Steve! It deffo deserves a photo behind your rake of ballast hoppers! I was initially tempted to start my kit, but looking at yours, that lamp hook is crying out for a lamp on the back. Thats got me thinking DCC Lamp.....I may have to put my kit away for a short while! Have you attempted the couplings yet? DId you use that weight in the end, or just letting the plough castings compensate for it? Keep them wagons coming!

    Nerves of steel

Here is me idea on the steel coils. More a proof of concept than a solution! I've stripped some multi strand wire (I got from a DCC kit, it's used for track droppers) and unwound the strands. Simply wrapped about 7 strands- each about 20cm - around a paintbrush. I've made a mess of it as its a quick lets see, but If you made a proper tool to do this, I reckon you could get some excellent results! I tried to put the brace wire through the center and rethread onto the brush, but this distorted it somewhat. If you could make a dowel with groves along its length and place the brace wire in before wrapping the coils, I think you'll get the neat effect of the real thing. Prob want a jig to hold the dowel while you wrap the coils tigher with both hands. A bit of weathering down n I think the scale would be just right! The brace wires can be wrapped accross the coils on the dowel, then soldered at one end or in the center to hold it all together. It's a bit of an effort for such a smal item, but I'll throw the idea out there! edit: for scale reference, Might also take someone with a little more finese!

    Nerves of steel

Yo Steve Bad news I'm afraid. The BDA I picked up n brought rnd yours to weather in the spring now looks even more crud now I've seen yours. Mine does have factory fitted discs on the bogies mind! (GF ref 377-601 just to be sure we have the same wagon) A visit to the 2mm stand would be good. I watched (most) of the videos posted previously. think between us we could make a set of points? Or is that just another no-go area such as dcc lighting 08's? LOL! The wagon is looking great. I've not forgotten about them coils either. I've got an idea in mind and I'll go and play now n see what I can figure it... Got a spare piece of knauf foam here I think that might be photoplank sized if you want it! Keep the pictures rolling boss! I'm sure you have another wagon or two to show off!
  13. Damn, that's a real pain! I'f you'd forgotten to test the gauge then fine, but having to think of testing wagons placed on the tracks different ways is just bad luck you've been caught out Shame as I rather like your current bridge face, but hopefully not too much of a pain to replace it. I'll be taking some extra time when it comes to fixing my portal down now! Progress since my last post looks fantastic! Regards Lee
  14. Sweet. Looks better on here than it did on me phone! The most important thing this has reminded me is that I must weather my couplings! Keep the pics rolling boss! Lee
  15. Wales and steel! Two very interesting factors indeed! Looking forward to that update! Regards Lee

    Dogfish days

Certainly looking the art there skip. The frames and inner hopper skin look spot on for colour. I will be eagarly awaiting my next master class, as I just don't seem to get that result I think a few more pics are in order though boss! lets see some close-ups of ya work on here! Regards Lee
  17. Aways great to catch up with this thread! I'm loving some of the vehicles on your layout. I dunno why I just seem to never find anything suitable for N. That crane for instance, looks brilliant! Regards Lee
  18. Hi, This looks like a brilliant layout in the making here. I've enjoyed looking through the thread and will be keeping watch of your progress Great work! Regards Lee
  19. Why do I spend so long reading the forum, learning how to build the layout that I'll never build because I spend all my free time reading the forum!

      halfwit

Yes, but when you do build the layout you can post it on here and inspire others.

  20. What a fantastic layout! It's nice to see layous that have several scenes and areas to keep the eyes busy and amused! Could watch the train rolling by for hours here. Brilliant regards Lee
  21. Hi Really love the pics on this page! The modelled light really brings the (very well modelled) scene to life! Regards Lee
  22. I love these three shots, the first one in particular! I think little more could be done to make it more realistic. Regards Lee
  23. You certainly have a skill for the minute details! The inside of the shed is amazing! Very inspiring work indeed! Regards Lee
  24. I can tell this is a big build from all the internal shots, but to see the overview from the outside of the building really puts it into perspective! You've done a superb job so far, and I think any exhibition would be grateful of your layout being on show! Top work indeed. Regards Lee
