  1. just trying to think of where i've seen it, but there's a pic somewhere of an all green 33 on the front of a TC set, might be in the 'fleet survey' for types 1-3? EDIT found it. p60 of BR fleet survey 4 types 1-3 (haresnape, batty/ian allan 1989). an un-i/d 33/0 on a waterloo-b'mouth near lymington jn. 30/3/67, train is TC stock. photo by john a.m. vaughan
  2. atlantic cartier just off SE coast of ireland http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/shipdetails.aspx?mmsi=266017000&header=true
  3. friends will be friends - queen
  4. "The side door vans you mentioned were used at Central, but they had vans with ramps between them so the cars could be driven from one to another" sounds like the train vans would be GUVs - these had folding end doors and drop-down flaps which would provide a 'road' through the train for cars. re: the unloading vans http://www.jhowie.fo...ntralother.html stated as an adapted well wagon, with the rudimentary 'body' presumably to ensure any vehicles are in gauge
  5. I love you because you look like Jim Reeves - half man half biscuit
  6. marinetraffic.com showing atlantic conveyor in irish sea past wexford, ETA showing as 1000 tomorrow
  7. pic of 2 UID locos at dingwall, 1970 http://www.railbrit.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete2.php?id=37074
  8. atlantic companion on its way from halifax, nova scotia http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/shipdetails.aspx?mmsi=265142000&header=true
  9. there's lots of stuff on the underground, a lot of it though is not usually accessible for starters here: http://underground-history.co.uk/belsize.php with relics from WW2 era a look throught the whole site is recommended, many stations showing remains of original decoration/tiling, old LT or even 'careless talk' posters. very interesting, but very eerie seeing materials which have remained from so long ago
  10. scary kid's programme, 'the changes' has a western and cl.47 coming out of a tunnel in the opening titles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYco6bOsUQo EDIT: just had a quick skim, station exploding and rolling stock in flames at 5:58
  11. a bit late for your timescale, but telerail's 'railfreight today' dvd for the south-east covers akeman st. fertiliser traffic. IIRC a 31 + vans + brakevan (for propelling) i must dig it out, as it says that on the way out there's a 17 mile trip, just to run round at aylesbury, no other loops etc. being available ( i think these dvds are early 90s)
  12. i'd seen 70017 too, when searching to see if there were any pics at newport yet: http://www.flickr.com/photos/camera-junkie/6525746545/in/photostream/ earlier on in this topic, i was wondering which way they would come, as i think it was on the GE or freightliner website that previous locos have gone by rail to newport, virginia (i.e. on the east coast) thence to the uk interesting pics anyway, given the 70 on a flat is only just taller than the other locos!
  13. at newport http://www.shipais.com/currentmap.php?map=Newport
  14. now showing on marinetraffic: http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/datasheet.aspx?SHIPNAME=bbc+colorado&TYPE_SUMMARY=&menuid=&datasource=SHIPS_CURRENT&app=&mode=
  15. been looking for it too! the uk site ShipAIS similarly no sign of it yet
  16. was watching 'can blue men play the whites?' on iplayer, showed muddy waters at chorlton station in 1963 looked on u-tube for it, turns out it was a whole (rather contrived) show, but with legengds of the blues
  17. thanks for that steve. btw a snippet from the railway observer, may 1976: "messrs. w.e. knappet & sons of snailwell are offering for sale the bodies of railway goods vans at '£60 each ex-works plus VAT'" i take it this would be a fairly common thing, scrappies being aware how useful they would be to farmers etc., plus it's presumably more than the value of the scrap wood!
  18. a couple of my i posted in the old thread. in the grounds of carrick villa, to the east of largo station on the former east of fife railway line i can't remember what it turned out to be, apart from being a demountable container of some kind. btw, haven't been up that way for a while, but i presume it's still there
  19. you see him getting on the train (nice and polite shutting the doors behind him!) and the interior, then at the very end @4:45, when he gets off you see the DMS
  20. don't think we've had these before, 5113+5129 on a railtour in sept. 1973 http://www.flickr.com/photos/kerryp28/5913413310/in/set-72157626602091241/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/kerryp28/5912852127/in/set-72157626602091241/
  21. re: that sinking feeling my memory played tricks, but continuity plays more! the scene from 3:00-3:14 involves going down the steps to springburn station, from 3:20-3:40 shows the push-pull set (albeit lengthened for dramatic effect). does anyone recognize the station (not disused as i originally thought)? might be bishopbriggs, the train is defo glas-edin with the BSO at the back http://youtu.be/zG7jbpHjNPU p.s. how do i get a youtube video to show? have tried different tags/brackets etc but always shows as a link?
  22. 'get carter' has been mentioned - good interior shots of mk2a FK and mk1 dining car as well as the deltic cabride! bill forsyth's 'that sinking feeling' has a scene where characters meet on a disused platform on the edin-QS line and a class 27 push-pull set goes hammering past ABC's 'all of my heart' video has a 501 going past The Young Ones episode 'bambi' has them tearing about a station (bristol temple meads?) and leaving on a 125, all accompanied by motorhead doing 'ace of spades'!
