  1. just reached 1000 posts! maybe not much in the grand RMWeb scheme of things, but a milestone nonetheless. just hope at least some of them have been of use to someone out there! :-)

Nice one. It's taken me ten months to get past 60 so Iv'e got a long way to go to reach 1000.

  2. for mike, not quite APT but nearly there! http://www.fictitiousliveries.co.uk/photo.php?emu390067_IC.jpg or if you want things other way round..... http://www.fictitiousliveries.co.uk/photo.php?370008.jpg
  3. innit dark down there! looked for the first time, the advert just finished and an HST came through.
  4. re: the 107 with working blinds, found another one http://www.flickr.com/photos/alan1960/5587941083/ although only at one end! from the next pic in the set, the DMBS has it painted out as normal. was actually looking for a different pic on flickr (i even commented on it) but d'you think i can find the ffing thing???(it's in one of my favourites too)
  5. the increasing interest in althletics is affecting literacy. Discus
  6. p.35 of the harris mk2 book has 2 pics in 1964 - FKs E13366 in maroon and S13389 in green, both with flashes present there may be an instruction from the carriage standards committee minutes in the parkin mk1 supplement whichdetails the 'overall' use of the flashes
  7. that's a cracker right enough jamie. just occured to me how different liveries look more different on the met-camms, before realising it's because there's no roofline/dome - the front end is all end!
  8. found another pic tonight of this variation mk2e TSOs at Carlisle 26-9-84 at john turner's 53A Models on Flickr
  9. thanks for that post bomag, certainly shows things are never as straightforward as they seem made me wonder as to why there were all these different catering cars - was it a case of the mk1 RBRs would be on the way out and the mk3 RFMs not available immediately, so they used whatever mk2 ones were otherwise unused and available?
  10. a little bit before your era dave, but saw this tonight - note the rarely-used siding far left (leading into a double-slip!) you could leave yours in so it's there if you need it! notice the 08 in the far RH siding too waverley 29-6-60 by ron fisher on Flickr
  11. the mk1 catering vehicles would be an RBR which had both kitchen and buffet provision the mk3 catering vehicles were the RFM, again with kitchen and buffet provision - these were built as RUB, or converted from loco-hauled FO/former HST TRUKs both mk2 and mk3 trains would seem to have followed the standard formation, as suzie says DBSO+6TSO+catering+2FO+loco don't know if it was the site suzie was referring to, but thejunction.org.uk had coach sets listed - seems to be closed now, but using the 'wayback machine' have found a page that shows some 'one' cl.90+mk3 sets as well as archived anglia mk2 sets (albeit with cl.90s as well) wayback link EDIT: looked at an earlier capture including cl.86 haulage
  12. i think all 4 discs were capable of being folded up or down, just they tended to be folded down so the marker lights were obscured. you're right though that it's rare to see and would make an interesting variation! also notable is how dim the headlights are - they were a fair bit brighter than markers lights (lucas car headlights, i believe?), yet nowhere near the searing brightness of the lights on a lot models (or today's real trains for that matter).
  13. i realised from robert's comments on the pic that it is somewhat poignant, thank you for your insight bob. presumably it was easier to add the 'Scotrail' to the existing logo, until it was decreed what the 'proper' logos should be? although from what you've said previously about chris green, i wouldn't be surprised if it said 'Scotrail Inter-City'! incedentally, what are the red labels in the middle door/guard's windows? an early edinburgh-glasgow label or some sort of 'not in use'?
  14. excellent pics again andrew, thanks for posting them regarding the Scotrail/ScotRail logos, found this today DBSO 9706 at edinburgh 13-4-84 on Flickr by robertcwp don't think i've seen the combination of Inter-City and Scotrail before!
  15. i suppose what you've done (extremely successfully, i might add) is capture the very 'essence' of waverley. in that, ok, it may not be 100% accurate, but you've absolutely nailed the features and qualities that means it can't be any other station. i'm sure everyone who has looked in here is in no doubt that it's (based on) waverley! whether you want to improve further the accuracy aspect is entirely up to you of course and would then depepnd on the extra time/effort/expense etc being worth it. a happy compromise will let you get most of the feel and trains running sooner, absolute reality may see you decend into a never-ending quest for accuracy. (then you might go mad! )
  16. the sept.1976 RO mentions the "new £60,000 Solari 'falling-leaf' platform indicator has come into use above platforms 14-16 at Waverley." also says 'slave' units have been placed in the travel centre and various platform gates around the station. they were maybe still getting the hang of it though, when an abdn-york service had all stations correct, but catering was shown as 'from carstairs only'! same issue mentions prep work for the replacement of the boards at waterloo in july - "the three existing indicators, two of which date back to 1922 [and] the bostwick wrought-iron barrier gates are all for sale." - these must be the ones phil linked to above
  17. great work as usual dave, looks a bit less scary now the board looks tidier again! on the signalling diagrams, the siding over on the other side was labelled a 'ballast siding', but whether it was used for such or just for a spare loco, i don't know. i was wondering if you disconnect your siding at the 'station' end, is there any room to reconnect it right at the 'tunnel' moujth - i think your retaining wall may be in the way and of course it would mean any moves having to go out into the 'gardens' board and back threough the tunnels? although not strictly accurate, the way you have it now lets you do the equivalent of a 'king's cross shuffle' across the station for the loco/pilot! possibly an interesting excercise in fitting that in to your timetable, say after a loco 'failure' in one of the platforms? looking good anyway, good luck with the rest!
  18. pic of the manual boards at glasgow central on wikipedia the wiki article says it lost them in 1986, replaced by what sounds like dot-matrix type, then got LED boards in 2005. although the main station never had solari boards, i've a feeling the sub-surface lines may have had solari 'monitor' style displays on the platforms?
  19. didn't glasgow central go straight to dot-matrix from the old manual boards? ISTR it being newsworthy that the 'old fashioned' boards worked by one bloke were being done away with, in late 80s?
  20. initially the term was 'Scotrail' but the parkin mk1 book mentions the fact that a lot of folk read it as Sco-trail (to do with the way we read words). changing it to 'ScotRail' meant it would be read the way it's meant to be! EDIT - forgot to say, that's a pretty rare pic, only ever seen another pic of the rail-blue stripe (at QS)
  21. all the way to eastern europe on 'light refreshments'
  22. there used to be an oft referred to set - diesel-image-gallery @ fotopic new version at http://dieselimagegallery.com/ not up-and-running yet but hopefully soon
  23. i've just went through 11 pages to check and i believe 'whatever happened to the likely lads' hasn't been mentioned! blue DMUs over one of the bridges in the opening titles, but mainly the first episode 'strangers on a train' mk1 SK action, then a buffet car of some sort. doesn't seem to fit any mk1 layout, an open bar counter next to a bay of seats, then the vestibule partition. the detail does seem to be quite good though, even for a TV mockup. later on, hilarious platform mix-up ensues at doncaster 1st part here, click on links for the rest Clip of series - Strangers on Train just remembered, a later episode, with the competitive bike-ride, they end up at some station waiting room on a sunday with no trains?
