  1. What time does Sean Connery arrive at Wimbledon? Tennish
  2. Spotted these O gauge buildings of Allan's on the club stand at the Egham show on Saturday - £20 each. Not being an O gauge modeller I didn't buy them but they did strike me as somewhat of a bargain!
  3. As a wise man once said, "The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single by the Proclaimers."
  4. Swindon Panel closes next month with all functions transferring to TVSC (and the Panel itself transferring to Didcot!),

    A New Start

More seriously though I do have a garage-sized plan based on the sub-surface network, which I'm thinking of submitting to RM.
  6. I believe the Voyagers and Adelantes were the first multiple units deemed crashworthy enough to run at more than 100mph. Prior to that, for 100mph+ running, a locomotive, power car,or DVT was needed at the head of the train to provide a crumple zone.
  7. The Bath area gantries/masts will only have to support wires over two tracks, not four as at Goring. Less weight to support, less distance to bridge and lower potential upward forces as on a 4-track line there is the possibility (albeit remote) of four pantographs all passing under the same gantry simultaneously!
  8. I didn'tthink there had been any railway undertakers since the Brookwood Necropolis Railway closed...
  9. Wanted - one experienced engineer to design electrification gantries for the Great Western Main Line. Route knowledge desireable. Stovepipe hat essential.
  10. And prior to that,it was also used on the fixed distant at Monkton Combe...
  11. Looks like the project may have taken a big step backwards: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-berkshire-35321340
  12. It's about as useful as those wonderfully expensive display boards on the Underground, which instead of telling you when the next train's due in spend most of their time telling you which line you're on - which can be done just as well with a metal sign or a piece of paper!
  13. I'd actually go one stage further and say please HIT,can we have a live-action Thomas movie now (written by Chris Awdry of course!)?
  14. When Truro did her run,it was daytime - departure from Millbay was 09.23am. So Rous-Martin was NOT working by a paraffin lamp, trying to read mileposts in the dark! By my own calculations,if Rous-Martin's timing of 80mph at the exit from Whiteball Tunnel was correct (and of course it is just as likely to be low as high), then provided Truro was providing enough power to overcome friction and wind resistance, gravity should have been enough to take her to over 100mph down the bank. Bear in mind that Rous-Marten's timings are average speeds and Truro was still accelerating until the brakes came on after the end of the last quarter mile. So whilst 102.3mph may not be correct, there is no doubt in my mind that 100mph was achieved.
  15. Just wondering - is it possible that the lack of progress west of Reading over Christmas is due to the weather? As I was away over Christmas I don't know how windy it was but since installing masts is probably a crane job, might the work have had to be cancelled/curtailed for safety reasons?
  16. wondering if the trains I ran in my dad's loft are the only trains to have run west of Swansea today.

    A New Start

Remember that it would have to be a sub-surface line (i.e. Met/H&C/District)for the S stock to run, rather than an extension to the Bakerloo or Northern Lines. That said, I suppose that had the East London Line not been subsumed into London Overground, it may well have received S stock.
  18. I may be wrong, but I think all four lines at Pangbourne now have wires.
  19. I noticed while I was locking up the loos at Cholsey on the Sunday before Christmas that there is now a concrete mast base in the embankment behind the London end of platform 4.
  20. As a wise Scotsman once said, "The more complicated the plumbing, the easier it is to block up the drains..."
  21. Once it gets going, very good - especially 'Pike','Fraser' and 'Hodges'.
  22. If you're spreading PVA under the track, would it not make sense to get the ballast down before the glue dries?
  23. Excellent afternoon in Cholsey ticket office today!
