  1. Hello David Many thanks for the kind words. Firstly, may I say to you - and everyone else who has been good enough to make suggestions - that I'm sorry if I sound 'a tad dismissive' of them. I'm not and I don't want to stifle what amounts to a brainstorming exercise. It's simply that we have been running The Poll for a long time and have tried all sorts of innovations either in draft or in actuality (as per Category 21 this year). We decided long ago to not have boxes for (such as): This is my top priority item or I'd buy X of these etc. We have made it as simple as we possibly can: pick a category; tick your wants; hit submit; job done. We could restrict the number that can be voted for in any category, but we are sure we'd have people say: X quantity is not enough for me - I need Y quantity! As Team Traction alludes to (above) we could have a box for: Which manufacturer would you like to see make this item? And, the more tick boxes you have, the more analysis and reporting to be done which could detract from the clarity of the results presentation. Please keep the thoughts coming though! We do listen and will reply with reasons - positive or negative as the case may be. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  2. Thanks Neil - appreciated. The 57xx/8750 were listed in the Poll itself new last year. They came in Middle Polling again this year. See Results Category-by-Category. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  3. Many thanks David. To be honest, we haven't contacted any 'box openers'...but it comes down to time and effort and really needs someone 'with contacts'. I simply don't have the spare time. Well, I might have, but I'd put myself so close to having no contingency margin where my time is actually needed most. And I can't afford to get that close. We don't ask where people have heard of The Poll as we decided long ago that we would only stick to 'core content' (lest we stray off to subjects such as which point motors do you use; which mags do you read etc). We wouldn't be certain of it giving absolute useful data. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  4. Hello David Many thanks. We haven't listed those. Back when we were asked to 'rationalise' the content of what was The Poll, those units were polling very, very low. Our policy is to 'back load' as much as possible as soon as possible where we can. I'll put them on the Agenda, but we are really tight for space - unless all our lovely manufacturers start announcing loads of new items that we can remove from the lists! Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  5. Hello D9020 Nimbus When we ran N, Industrial and Underground, we had 2178 00 voters in 2015 and 2473 in 2016. The Poll didn't run in 2017. In 2018, we didn't run N, but were still running Industrial and Underground. We had 2537 voters for 00. In 2019, we dropped Industrial and Underground. We had 2511 voters. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  6. Many thanks Mark We have to run at this time of the year as it fits predominantly with Andy York's diary and with a small number of Team members who have work commitments at certain times of the year. We get most votes in the first few days. We did run for a month in the past, but found it wasn't to any advantage. We send out over 400 Press Releases and about the same number of posters get downloaded. We get promoted on numerous Facebook sites as well as websites. We don't have any budget for a website. We have looked into the matter but have stepped back from it. In essence, we need a Publicity Manager who is willing to work 24 hours a day, seven days a week for no pay, virtually no thanks, tons of hassle etc etc Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  7. Hello David Thanks for writing. I will be interested to see the figures...but note that The Team places more store by relative position year on year within the segments of Top 50, High, Middle and Low Polling, rather than a few votes either way (say 30 to 40 or so as given in the reasons in our first post). A quick count up of (pure-ish) SR and (pure-ish) NER listings shows: NER: 14. Nine have gone up in votes (one by a good margin) and five have come down (most by small margins). None has polled over the 200 mark. SR: 10. Three have gone up and seven have come down - but sometimes by only a small margin, although the Leader dropped by most. Four polled over the 200 mark. Two polled over the 300 mark. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  8. Thanks Mark I'll get that on the Agenda for you (without prejudice). Brian (on behalf The 00 Poll Team)
  9. Hello Clive Why would you give up? The stock has made The Top 50 - but no-one has announced it yet. One can only assume that the release of the N7 may have had some effect on voters but the stock has been high up for a long while now. And I do hope we won't have the usual interjections from those who say it's better to make kits or scratchbuild. There are plenty of threads for that. This thread is Results - The 00 Wishlist Poll 2019. Let's keep on topic, please. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  10. Hello Mark As noted earlier, the purpose of The Poll is for modellers and collectors to express their views of what they would realistically wish to buy at some time in the future. Loco categories always get more voters than the corresponding ones for rolling stock. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  11. Hello woodenhead I'm guessing you are alluding to The Top 50 Steam, Gas Turbine, Diesel & Electric Locos. The LYR Aspinall 27 missed out by just two votes and the Webb 'Cauliflower' wasn't all that far behind. The Cambrian, I'm sorry to say, has always been in Low Polling. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  12. Hello Mark Don't forget that the purpose of The Poll clearly states that it is for modellers and collectors. The S-160 has a rightful place in the lists. Could you let me have your list of suggestions of LT items that we ought to list with good reasons? Thanks. They will need to be very strong and compelling reasons. We already have a long list of possible new entries - but not enough spare room to get them all in. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  13. Hello Forester A bit difficult to give a full reply there as we have had the D and E either combined or split over the years. What I can say is that the D1 + E1 and L1 have consistently been in High Polling and both are Top 50 this year. A noted previously, we put more store by where an item sits consistently over a period of time. We are confident that even if an item polled 1001 votes, it wouldn't influence a maker if they weren't getting the same strong feeling from people at shows and via emails etc. In fact, if something ever 'stood out like a sore thumb' we would pounce on it, possibly remove it and possibly nullify the whole Poll. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  14. Thanks Ian We are at a loss as to how we might attract more voters. Suggestions welcomed. Brian
  15. Hello 34C It was indeed - just as we expected. As noted, we went into the subject 'eyes wide open' having had a fair amount of experience. We wanted to give people the chance to vote, but it doesn't lead to anything very constructive...and it won't be repeated in future years. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  16. Hello Forester Bear in mind that all four you mention are in the high end of High Polling. Pretty consistent positioning over the years. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  17. Hello 34C It's only in download No.2: Results Category-by-Category (towards the end). Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  18. Hello GordonC Both types are (reasonably) consistently positioned over the years and this year is no exception. I'll put the possible combination on the Agenda although it's outside my sphere of knowledge, so I can't comment here. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  19. Many thanks Tony - appreciated! To quote the comedian, Tom Allen: Nothing says 'fun' like an Excel Spreadsheet! Brian
  20. Hello Phil A personal observation from me without Poll Team hat on. The Warflats etc seem to have sold very well. Perhaps a link there? Brian
  21. Hello James The USATC S-160 has been in The Top 50 since 2014 and has consistently moved up year on year. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  22. Hello Phil The K polled 280 votes this year. In 2018, it polled 281. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  23. Hello GreenGiraffe This is partly to do with the fact that 14 places in The Top 50 have become available this year. It has meant that a number of locos have moved up the pecking order consistently with previous year's results. The SECR 01 was just one vote outside The Top 50 in 2018. The SR L1 was just two votes outside. The D1 & E1 were just 10 votes outside. The W and C2X were just over 20 votes outside. I suspect the SECR D would have been up there had it not been announced during the currency of The Poll. It was taking a fair percentage of the SR loco votes until a few days after the announcement. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  24. Results – The 00 Wishlist Poll 2019 Hello everyone Very many thanks to all those who downloaded and displayed The Poll posters and who took part in The 00 Wishlist Poll 2019. Once again, the 00 Poll Team would like to express its grateful thanks to Andy York for all his timely help in running ‘the computerised aspects’ of The Poll for us and particularly for the ‘new style’. Although The Poll is ‘hosted’ on RMweb, Andy does this as a volunteer in his own time and neither he nor Warners/BRM etc have any ‘influence’ on it. The 00 Poll Team itself comprises nine volunteers who have worked on The Poll in its current format since 2012. We are unpaid and totally independent. The results are in the formats of: * Most Wanted * Category-by-Category * Top-to-Bottom * Top-to-Bottom – New Entries Only (a new result for you this year, showing where the 112 new items came in) We always seem to have one or two people who will exclaim such as: “The LCDDRR Ventilated Donut Van has polled 30 more votes this year – it must be a fiddle!” There are many reasons why we get slight year-on-year fluctuations and we have listed some below…but The 00 Team puts more store by how items fare relatively and whether they stay within High, Medium or Low Polling. A number have been in The Top 50 for years. * Industrial and Underground categories have gone, removing 43 items * 18 announced items have been deleted * These deletions have freed up 14 places in the Top 50 * 112 new items have gone in * Some items have been ‘combined’ this year whilst others have been ‘split’ * Freight has been split from three categories to four, which could have affected how voters saw items * General Railway Service has been split from one category to two, which could have affected how voters saw items * Press Releases have gone out but may not have been received or acted upon * We know of some magazines that heavily supported us last year, but have not done so this year due to quarterly publication dates being too early or too late. * Conversely, we weren’t in some last year but are this year. * Just one club of c.35 members all voting for one item can propel it from top end of Low Polling one year to bottom end of High Polling the next (or vice versa if they don’t vote) * Certain categories are more ‘popular’ with voters than others * New announcements might have a positive – or negative – effect on votes for items (for example, the SECR D Class was announced during the currency of The Poll. Some may already have voted.) * Some might be encouraged to vote if they perceive an increase in announcements of certain eras etc. But others may be ‘losing hope’ and stop voting for other time-frames * An item that has been ‘restored’ and has received publicity may well have an impact on voters * Items that have recently featured prominently in magazine articles etc may have an impact on voters We hope you will find the results interesting and that the makers keep providing us with the now so often excellent models with which we can further enjoy our modelling!
