  1. Thank you all for the various tips, plenty to think about.
  2. Thanks for that Michael, I find the linking of my bank account to eBay a bit worrying, probably due to having it hacked some years ago, but I suppose if it's now a requirement everyone's in the same boat. Most of what I'm looking to sell is either older RTR or kits, bits and pieces I've picked up over the years. I presume fees are based on a percentage of the sale price, as per most other auctions?
  3. Ladies and gentlemen, your indulgence if I may? My modelling interest went for a walk a good many years ago now and doesn't seem in any hurry to return, so with this in mind and the fact I'm already the wrong side of 65, still working full time, mainly because I enjoy my job, and I have many 'projects' that are now unlikely to even get started let alone finished I'm looking to sell some of them on. The money would come in useful, as I seem to be spending a bit on various cars, and maybe clearing the decks a bit might encourage me to actually get on with something? I've used eBay in the past but not for many years now and there often seem to be a good number of negative comments and potential pitfalls mentioned. I wonder if some of you would be so kind as to give me a bit of a tutorial on what to look out for. I do have a PayPal account but I've never really used it to receive money. For instance, as far as I can figure out it seems most transactions are now required to be done through PayPal, when I last used it cheques (remember them?) were considered perfectly acceptable. I do realise that there's probably all these kind of things covered in the various topics but it would be helpful if a regular user could summarise them please? Thank you in advance. Neill (GC)
  4. I'm not sure who you're referring to but I can't say I've noticed a great deal of 'won't do' posts. There have been various 'can't does' which have been explained in the main.
  5. As I've already pointed out in previous posts I'm personally responsible for carrying out my duties, my company management is corporately responsible for my actions. If something is done which results in bad consequences there's lots of people looking where to apportion blame. For instance I COULD, probably, take one of our units to London as a guard and cause no issues, but as I don't sign beyond Leicester if something did go wrong both I and the company management would likely be facing a judge at some point. I would not take an HST or Meridian to Liverpool, although I sign the route I do not have competence on either traction and would quite likely get into trouble. In both cases it's possible to overcome the obstacles by double staffing, one with route knowledge, the other with the relevant traction knowledge. But this requires there to be staff available and given we're mostly already fully employed on our own jobs there simply isn't the spare capacity to provide anything above one or two services in the way you seem to think.
  6. Rail staff are given individual responsibility for the safe operation of the railway, continued competence and adherence to the rules is regularly monitored, rightly so. The consequences of stepping outside the rules can be catastrophic as I'm sure most people understand and has been amply demonstrated over the years. I don't always agree with the rules I'm required to work under, as mentioned in a previous post something relatively minor related to a paperwork issue, but I follow them, knowing full well that if I don't I can at the very least lose my job. At the worst it could result in dire consequences for other people and I find myself in court for causing said consequences.
  7. Wonder if LNER are looking into any sort of contingency for the future if this issue is repeated as their sets accumulate more miles?
  8. (Un)fortunately paperwork is now all important for anyone working in a safety critical role, rightly so as it also provides protection if something should go wrong. There's something we had done for years now prohibited because of paperwork issues. Something very simple but because it 'got lost' from the paperwork at some point we're not now allowed to do it, so have to call on another competent person who holds the relevant permission.
  9. Without trawling around, wasn't a contributory cause of the azuma derailment at Neville Hill to do with the specific requirements for the inter vehicle couplings not including low speed collision performance? Maybe, and I'm only speculating, there is something in this regarding the original specification? On another note, the fleet wide inspection on LNER was actioned at 04.00 this morning.
  10. 'Commercial confidentiality' or 'if we told you we'd have to kill you'?
  11. If it's out of all proportion, can you explain why LNER ticket validity has been extended up to and including Sunday 16th May? Hardly seems like a short term issue to me. Anyway I'm not getting into a war of words with you over it. My thoughts with all the front line staff who will have to deal with the fallout.
  12. So if you look at the mainstream news sites they are now catching up....... Granted there is a lot of wibble on WNXX, but most people posting at 04.00 or so probably have reason to be up at that sort of time. You may note I also cited internal sources?
  13. There's these, recently parked up at Ely, some trailers at the back of the site as well. All it would need is a few drivers and guards to come and pick them up
  14. Hmm, professionals, means they get paid for it......... I'm in a bit of a cynical mood this morning
  15. It would seem a few LNER services are now running after units have been checked. Maybe if this continues for a while a call to HN rail at Worksop would be in order. He's got lots of ex LNER MK4 stock there still livered up, with class 91s from store at Doncaster just couple them, pan up and off you go
  16. Maybe if more people could read English it would improve? It seems to me the problem arises with the need to get information out as quickly as possible, so it often doesn't even get checked. How many edits do you see here blaming the spool chucker? To add an example, one of our control messages, sent out several years ago, said a broken down train was due to it hitting two PEASANTS in Lincolnshire. Now I know that agriculture is a major industry in Lincolnshire but I think we've moved on from using peasants. There are, however, many many pHeasants in Lincolnshire, lots of which commit hara Kiri on the rail network.
  17. You'll probably find a lot of mainline crews now no longer 'sign' for HSTs apart from the fact they'd have to be relocated
  18. WNXX as well as internal sources. News is notoriously slow to catch up with some things, remember there's elections going on and well as other things on people's minds.
  19. Apparently the whole fleet of Hitachi trains across the country have been pulled out of service for safety checks, that's LNER, GWR, TPE and Hull Trains services all down the pan. Due to cracks in the body being found I understand. Going to be an 'interesting' day for those of us still running
  20. Wife sent this earlier. Lottie trying out a box for size, she's not a big cat by any means but obviously won't fit in a box that food pouches come in. Doesn't stop her trying...... The look just says WHAT??
  21. May well have seen you there at some point. Spent large amounts of the school holidays around New Basford and Perry Road.
  22. Just to clarify, the GN sidings were on the down side. New Basford was my local station as a youngster. You'd only know it had ever been there now if you know what to look for and where. You may be interested in the Basford North layout being built by Dibateg of this parish. A search should find it as posts can be a bit infrequent.
  23. While you can't help growing old it doesn't mean you have to grow up
  24. Minor pedantic comment if I may? 64420 was, from memory, allocated to Annesley late 50s/early 60s. For a while it was the yard pilot at New Basford. Many years ago I built a BEC kit of one mounted on a Triang jinty chassis, numbering it in tribute to a loco I had seen as a child. A good many years later I discovered that it was actually one of those rebuilt to J11/3 with a higher pitched boiler as the main visual clue. I thought I had read somewhere that Bachmann were going to do the rebuilt version at some time but I've no idea if they have, and anyway I would no longer buy one as a matter of principle. Some people may take exception to that comment and if anyone is offended by it, mods can delete.
  25. Does this give you some idea of what's achievable? The equipment was already a bit dated when this was filmed, it transmitted on the same frequency as BBC 2 apparently. Can't help wondering if any nearby houses wondered what the heck was going on.
