  1. He has even posted the various questions - look at the second answer!

Q: Hello. I recently bought 2 coaches like these but only require the sleeping car.Would you split your listing for 450 Euros in line with my other purchase price?. Thanks you.15-Jul-10

A: hi peter - sorry but i really dont want to split the set up unless i have a definate sale for the 2 dining cars. The buy it now price is a keen price compared to others i know that are currently being offered for sale by dealers. I will keep your email on file just in case i do get an offer for the 2 dining cars. - thanks

    Q: Completely potty prices!!14-Jul-10

A: dear charliettr (philip cooke) - this is a typical comment from a TTRCA member - dont forget that the auction says 'or best offer' !!!!! - i may sell for 100.00 - then the buyer thinks he has a bargain and i get rid of another cr4ppy bit of trix - i will be glad to see the back of it all.

  2. The front ones in Intercity 'Mainline' livery and the back one is in 'old' Intercity livery. I'm going to take a punt on the front one as 73138 'Post Haste'. I seem to think it was only one of two 73/1's that acquired this livery, the other being 73130 'City of Portsmouth' (which I think had an extra plate on the side).

Have to say, I love the photo's of this era with such a variety of formations. Thanks to everyone that has contributed.

  3. I believe Sellinge is where the other driving motor coach is. From looking at the various information on these units it appears a third vehicle (one of the trailers) made it into preservation but has since been scrapped.

I'd have thought a well restored example would be nice in the NRM. Whilst it was not successful i'd have thought people would be interested in seeing the unusual seating arrangement. I guess space is always an issue though, the NRM has a COR, SUB (an older one?) and a VEP coach so the SR is well represented as it is. Would the DD coach be more of a 'star attraction'?

  4. Spent the weekend at my sister's and on the way home, me and the kids stopped at the Northampton and Ironstone Railway. They are a small set-up with a quarter of a mile of useable track, but the track seems to go a little further. They were doing cab rides in an industrial diesel today which was fun. The have some really tight corners, some of the curves look like Hornby radius 1's!

Anyway, what took my eye was one of the last two remaining vehicles of the unsuccessful prototype double decker train. It's a very interesting prototype:

Unfortunately it doesn't look as good as in the pcture, with a few doors missing but the interior is still intact. It's a real shame that this vehicle will likely rot as I think it would be a fascinating museum piece for people to see. As a volunteer at the Swindon & Cricklade, i'm well aware of the vast quantities of money that need to be put into projects like this (which they don't have), so i'm certainly not having a go at the railway.

I'd recommend people stopping by if they are in the area, it's certainly worth a look.

  5. Another oddball was the VEP that had a 4-TC driving trailer inserted in it and ran as such for many years, indeed I believe the driving trailer still exists somewhere.

You're right, I travelled on it once. It was DTSO 76275 and retained the original bulbs too even though the rest of the unit was refurbished wwith fluorescent tubes.

  6. I seem to think there were also a few MBSO's with sealed vents in the main part (the unmodified bit) but a single pane of window in the modified seating area (which was only one window anyway).

  7. I wouldn't be that surprised if it sells though. It does look awful but has been described as if it's better than it is. How many armchair bidders would not know the inside of a 66 and want something to sit in their shed. He should have left it as 135 as that 8 looks awful!

  8. Thanks everyone for your comments. As with the MK1 BG should it be shorter than a standard Mk2? (As a side issue, does anyone know why exactly the Mk1 BGs were shorter? Was it just down to pre-BR design lineage?)

I'm leaning towards the all blue version with either 'Newspapers' as shown or maybe 'Rail Express Parcels' branding. Any suggestions on the TOPS code/numbering I should apply? NLX?

Any ideas for the left over bits? A Mk2 Exhibition coach or TCV Car carrying van perhaps... or maybe I'm about to have 'modellers licence' stamped void.

    Many thanks

    John

Based on the picture you have produced, I would shorten the frame for aesthetic purposes. The large section in the middle with no doors or windows just doesn't look right. Alternatively you could insert an extra window in the middle section.

With regard to the potential of a DVT you could go for either cab end of the Irish DEMU.

  9. I hadn'tnoticed the stripe issue on 048 but I do see what you mean. It's something I can live with so I won't bother changing it. The application of NSE on the 73 (129) in my opinion looks awful and I wouldn't ever want it. Strange how certain inaccuracies can be acceptedand others not so.

  10. Thanks for the replies - i'll probably remove them all and buy a heet of rub-on transfers. On the plus side I found the blue plates. I've left the crests off as it appears to have spent more time in NSE without them.
