  1. With the amount of problems I've had with my Hornby 50's, 56's and 60 pulling the first wagon/carriage off the track due to the coupling unit having a mind of its own, I'm pleased that Dapol have gone down that route.
  2. CEP looks nice. Is it your own conversion?
  3. Well having been on the shelf with the NSE one, I couldn't resist one that appeared on ebay as an unwanted present. It does look nice but the crispness of the paint between the dark blue and white isn't as good as it could be. I'd be interested to know if any others have this minor issue. It may well join my Connex one but at the moment is DC only. Here it is with the Connex one at the back: Also it is interesting to see the difference in blues used on the NSE EPB. An NSE HAP would involve the repainting of one of the coaches!
  4. To me the cab windows look too small. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/db/33_008_Woking_station.jpg
  5. You've got to be happy with the paint job. Looks great. I've always avoided doing blue/grey because of the white stripe between the two colours. I mixed livery rake would be good for an 8 car set though.
  6. Fantastic work. Is that a converted 466 (pair) into a 465?
  7. That's looking really good. Good luck with the rest of the stripes. They are very unforgiving!
  8. That picture is a great find. I'm interested to know how many NSE examples ran as 2 car units. There are plenty of photos of Connex units. Shows how popular these units came towards the end of their use on the southern lines. I am resisting the NSE one at the moment. I have the Connex one. They are nice visually though in reality are on a par with the much cheaper EPB. However, for me, what makes these units stand out is the sound option. They really make the unit come to life. Anyone thinking about getting a Thumper should seriously think about the sound version.
  9. Interesting links. What particularly interests me is that it was rebranded as early as 1993. Also, the triangle was moved up at this stage (because of the headlight). The 1993 shot also looks like it carries the network southeast writing on the DTCL.
  10. Quoted from Blood and custard: Three car unit number 205001 was sent for overhaul at Eastleigh December 1998 and was released as a two-car on 18th January 1999 in Connex livery, the trailer coach (TS) remained at Eastleigh having not been overhauled. I assume then that if it did run as a 2 car it must have been a temporary formation.
  11. Here's a photo of 205001 in debranded NSE. Still 3 cars 18/08/98. http://www.tosh-railways.com/Railways/70-uk-railway-photography/DEMU/i-bbmxLZT/A Blood and custard states that it was repainted in Connex 18/01/99. I'd be interested to see a photo of it running as a two car unit.
  12. I would be interested to know whether the NSE livery (particularly the blue) matches the 2EPB special edition set. Part of me hopes it doesn't so that I can get any ideas like that out of my head! With Kernow owning the rights to the Thumper tooling, could they produce the 2HAP?
  13. That looks great. For me though, the price tag is probably going to put me off. Will stick with my Connex one for now.
  14. Interesting idea. Whilst the motor will be in the wrong carriage, it will make the task a lot simpler. Will be interested to see how this goes. Good luck!
  15. Fully agree with this comment. There's something not quite right about it. I had plans to sell all my 73's and replace them with Dapol ones but I think I am going to have a good look at them before making a decision.
  16. Great photos. We are off to the Poitou-Charentes area in a few days. We have booked a ride on an X2800 Railcar so will post some photos when we return. http://www.cf-charentelimousine.fr/

  19. Wimbledon and Richmond would be where S stock and 450's would meet. SWT used to use the Wimbledon - Putney section of the District line for ecs workings. Not sure whether that is still the case? In terms of FGW, surely Paddington would be a good (if a little big) location. Perhaps Royal Oak? Edit: three minutes too slow!
  20. Whilst i'm looking forward to this model i'm slightly disappointed by the choice of numbers for the large logo (73105) and original Intercity (73102) models. 73105 ended up in Intercity livery fairly early on and 73102 was renumbered 73212 for Gatwick services. For me, a loco such as 73134 would have made have been a better choice as this carried I/C livery for far longer. Here is a shot of a well weathered version of it last year! http://eorailway.co.uk/news/uploaded_images/10530947_599226316854323_5895366970655907432_n.jpg (Yes I know I could renumber it - but would rather not!)
  21. Haven't seen warped plastic described in this positive way before! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tri-ang-Hornby-Model-Railways-Guards-Van-R-16A-Rare-Production-fault-Boxed-/131512091157?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1e9ebb4215#viTabs_0
  22. Appropriate username for this item? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Roco-HO-63461-SNCF-Diesel-Loco-68041-Boxed-Tested-Spares-Repairs-/391137492315?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item5b119c7d5b
  23. Sorry, probably should have put it in another thread. Certainly not madness. Good luck with the sale.
  24. A quick conversion of one of my FO's. Have modified a Lima Mark 2 FK interior so that it fits. This will be renumbered 13563, one of the 2 Mk 2d's to find it self on the West of England route. This one remained in Blue/Grey whilst the other (13575) found its way into NSE. Yes, it's a 2d and not a 2e but it's fine for me. I have removed the running numbers - this was not easy compared to a Bachmann coach.
