  1. Hi I am looking at a 2nd hand model wagon that I believe was painted by a previous owner. I can not find any reference to this model having been produced in the colour. How easy would it be to strip the paint safely? I don't know what paint was used and how it was prepared and I won't be able to find out. What problems may I encounter?
  2. Thanks Jason I have 7 x bettabitz sides already, but only 3 R122 Hornby coaches. As the clerestories seem to go at high prices on ebay I was wondering if the sides could be used as per other companies that produce sides. If I understand you correctly they can be. Graham
  3. Whilst I realise that Bettabitz coaches sides were designed as an overlay for the Hornby Clerestory coaches, I was wondering if they can be used in the same way as sides produced by Worsley Works, amongst others
  4. Hi I have been trying to contact C&L finescale by e-mail with a simple query. I have tried 3 times using 2 different address' without a reply. I was assured on one forum that under new owners things where good. They have a good website and online ordering system but do they actually deliver a reasonable service. I am a bit reluctent to place an order given that they don't reply to queries. I half completed an order before having second thoughts. I received an email telling me that I hadn't completed the order but didn't get a reponse to my query. Has anybody placed an order recently and were they happy with the service? I am in Australia so phoning isn't a reasonable option.
  5. Hi Can anybody tell me if Falcon Brassworks is a going concern. There is a webpage stating that they are the new owners. However, nothing seems to be available. They haven't answered my e-mails. I am in Australia so phone call is hard and expensive.
  6. Thanks for replies. I had read John Lewis' article in GWRJ. I wasn't sure if the train formation designations could be transposed to Cornwall. The use of E40 etches seems to be a good solution. I really had a predisposition towards clerestories but the kits seen in the Mike Wiltshire post look excellent, I suppose I can mix up clerestory and earlier non-clerestory carriages as per St Ives photograph I am also looking for coach working programmes but the document for local trains Best wishes
  7. Hi

I have  just found a message that I received from you in  2019 but missed at the time, I have just replied to you on this topic. Not sure if you will find it as it has been a long time.

    Thanks Graham

  8. Hi Mike I have only just read your reply. I don't know hoe I missed.I am basically interested in GWR wagons suitable for period c1929. I have seen a list of his kits and I am interested in all of them . Thanks
  9. Hi I have found information in relation to GWR coach formations for branch lines after the introduction of the "B" sets in the early 30's. However, I would like to know what was used prior to this eg was the train accommodation the same as the "B" sets but using older stock eg clerestories or 4 or 6 wheeled stock. The article I have read re: Cornwall says the "B" sets had 2 first class and 10 or 12 third class compartments. So would it be safe to assume that trains pre 30's would have had the same or similar accommodatioin?
  10. Chris I am the person that has been e-mailing from Australia I am glad you are OK. I was worried that you may have in capacitated when I didn't get replies to my e-mails. I now see the reason and I fully understand. There is no rush to get my order posted but I would like to make sure that I have secured my order. I would also like to establish how I can make payment for my order. Best wishes and stay safe
  11. Hi I was wondering if the 16xx series machima motors with suitable gear box can be fitted into the larger GWR locomotives Castle, Hall and 28xx
  12. Hi I have just started using Templot after having bought it a long time ago but never used it. I have updated to the latest version of Templot 2. Whilst playing around with it I somehow got a page that had Templot 3. I have searched around for an explanation of version 2 and 3. I saw a post explaining the need to reduce the size due copyright issues. Is this cutdown opensource version what is called Templot 3. I am not sure what open source means and what is the difference. Could anyone explain to a digitally chalenged person what the practical difference is between the two. In short which version should a newcomer to Templot use?
  13. Hi I have been looking around for 4mm kits for my c 1929 GWR layout. I have come across two manufactureres of 3D kits i.e. Stafford Road Models Works and a model by Wild Boar Models. Does anyone have any views of the quality of these products especially in relation to accuracy and appearance when finished and painted? A close up of the wild boar product looks as though it would need a little cleaning up.
  14. Hi Has anybody built a diagram 3d kit (in particular their GWR Siphon kits). If so what are your views on ease of construction, dimensional accuracy and appearance on completion? I would be keen to support this concern as there are concentraing on the pre-grouping era.
  15. Hello As a rule how long did carriages last before condemnation. I ask because I am thinking of purchasing a kit for a carriage that was converted from Broad gauge to narrow gauge. Could this have possibly lasted to 1929 in revenue earning service?
  16. Hi I am present planning a model revolving around the china clay industry in Cornwall. The layout will be a branch line. As part of my planning I am considering a ballast train working along the branch. What would the typical makeup of such a train be? Would the hoppers be a mixture of what was available at the dispatching yard or? I realise the number of hoppers would depend on the extent of the work needed but what would be typical of branch line permanent way work? Would there be any reason not to have a P7 ballast hopper as part of of the train? Best wishes
  17. Hi I am not sure if this is the correct place for this query. Coach bogie announced in mid 18 that due to ill health of his wife and himself that David had closed his business. I had assumed that was that. Since then have heard various stories on various blogs. Does anybody particularly Coach Bogie who seems to have known most about the situation, know what is happening. I would like to know what the future would be and whether one has to accept that the kits he sold have gone forever.
