  1. He did. Just home so report tomorrow. Bill
  2. Just home from Lord's; will explain why another time. Bed calls. Bill
  3. Back from the Home of Cricket. I rather think by the Twelfth Night, I'll be intoning Feste's song. Bill
  4. Very occasional posts for the next five days, as I watch the rain fall at Lord's. I haven't mentioned that an LAS trainer turned up at our training meeting last night - and checked our CPR skills by connecting his laptop to Annie. It got a bit ageist because the three OAPs (including myself) all scored 100%. Bill
  5. Which covers about 10% of the population. I'm in the 1% of ambidextrous people, so do we get our own day?. And don't think it is all sweetness and light, because I have absolutely no concept of "left" and "right". I have to work it out every time. First time I saluted in the cadet force, I used my left hand, because I mirrored the instructor. Bill
  6. Um, I treated a lad with autism today. Very much "can I take your pulse, it means holding your wrist?". Later, knowing the obs. the paramedic would take we dumb shewed temperatures, blood pressures and blood sugars. He was happy to let the paramedic do the obs because of the practice. I was thanked. Bill
  7. Mahler 4 at the Prom last night. No disturbances, apparently on Saturday a drunk Eduard Hanslick objected to the Bruckner 4. Preparing for a duty. Bill
  8. Did anyone else listen to the Prom? Perhaps the interrupter thought it was Brahms 4? I'm at the RAH for Mahler 4 tomorrow. Bill
  9. AndyID, you may want to get from platform 1 onto the branch. A single slip would do it. Bill
  10. That was the Catholic way (Cramner, Latimer & Ridley). The Church of England preferred, under the auspices of the state, to hang, draw and quarter. Take your pick ..... Bill
  11. Ummm, well not sure about this. The Act of Uniformity 1662 required clergy to make an oath of allegiance to King Charles, resulting in the Great Ejection of some 2000 clergy who would not confirm. Hence the start of non-conformism. Still not resolved, the present Anglican - Methodist talks will drag on for a few years yet. I'm thinking of a journey from Charing Cross to Dover Priory. Starts with a flash of Westminster Abbey (counts as it was briefly the seat of the Bishop of London, although now a Royal Peculiar), St Paul's across the Thames, practically encircles Southwark (very nice Gothic parish church style), my church spire is visible near Hither Green, then Rochester and Canterbury. Bill
  12. Life is so much simpler without a bank account. I have a building society current account (with a cheque book, and bill payment facility), a postal account into which I deposit cheques and a deposit account. Relatively simples. Yes I own a lump of plastic about 3" x 1" x ¼", which is an alarm clock, a mechanism to listen to The Archers when mobile and, in emergency, a means of communication. Just don't ask me the number, I haven't a clue - and it's permanently on silent anyway. Bill
  13. and released for good behaviour. I was correct - it was Tim Hale, masquerading under a pseudonym. Bill
  14. Reported myself to Andy York! Bill
  15. there may be trouble ahead, but while theres moonlight and music and love and romance, let's face the music and dance. I was following a "Pottendorf" thread in German Railways when some of the posts became somewhat aggressive. I smelled a rat and whilst the poster was unknown to me, I sensed the paw of a well known disruptive influence, correctly banned from RMWeb (and not our lamented pussy cat). There was a post criticizing a mini layout, so I responded by praising it, and lo-and-behold the whole thread is excised. A well known trick of aforementioned disruptive influence. I suppose I had better report myself to Andy York! Well done KZ! I did my usual Monday morning shift. Question to Patient 1: "So you have any allergies?" "No." "Have you eaten breakfast?" No, because I'm allergic to most food stuffs." Doh!! Later the crew are unhurriedly doing an ecg on Patient 3, so I sit with her daughter collecting information, when I sense a change of atmosphere; so I'm off dropping the tail lift and collecting the carry chair and it's a blue light run. Then I'm running to an unconscious patient, a phone call upgrades to a cardiac arrest, the next call is "patient has opened their eyes." Since when I've wiped down the Höchstädt track in preparation for a coat od "rusty rails" and iron the church linen. Bill
  16. Evening awl, A funny thing happening on ER. I posted my comment about French smokebox doors before Andy's post appeared, yet his is above mine. Like Andy, I have a shot meniscus, caused by Rugby and cycling and exacerbated by arthritis. Dealt with by a trim, physiotherapy and exercise (including cycling, but I'm very careful how I step off the bike) and I'm doing everything possible to avoid more invasive surgery. I've had a couple of sessions in the garage, wiring up the goods loop and listening to a very unusual Sibelius prom. Tomorrow I'm deaconing the Sung Eucharist for the first time, and with a visiting priest to boot! Bill
  17. Polly, the smokebox door looks French. Bill
  18. or the Carswell Turnstone. Bill
  19. Bit of a tradition in the Church of England, Tony, and we are a "traditional" organisation. When I speak to a bishop, I only use their Christian (*) name and I still get the occasional "Hrrrmph" from traditionalists. I think, at the last survey, all bishops believed in God. Not necessarily true in the past. Bill
  20. Evening awl, So home from three days at Lord's. Wednesday and Thursday were pretty intense with a lot of casualties, literally green up from one call and off to the next. I barely saw any cricket, just occasional glimpses of a screen, with a mental note of "what is the score?". I don't know how many of you know Lord's, but there is an amazing camaraderie within the ground, especially between first aiders and stewards. Today I saw most of the game, with the Irish Demolition Derby, and then had to wait for two hours until the bars closed. I'm unsure it helped the selectors much, with presumably Anderson and Archer opening, plus Stokes and a spinner, leaving Broad, Curren, Stone and Woakes to compete for one place. Jimmy was practicing each day, and there didn't seem anything wrong with his action. Very sad about John and Sandy's news. Bill
  21. very hot and very busy at Lord's today. Bill
  22. Whacked. Hotter tomorrow. Bill
  23. John, Sorry about your news. Bill
  24. Best wishes to Aditi. I'll be missing for four days, with the Ireland test match at Lords. I may be busy! Bill
