  1. Ist das ein Fleury-Foto? Ich habe einen Stapel Est-Lokomotiven für einen Freund gescannt. Bill
  2. Central London is a desert. There are a few shops in the suburbs, for example Kent Garden Railways is near St Mary Cray station. Bill
  3. There are a number of small shows that are not run by a formal model railway club. Indeed, I have put on one of these in the past. There is an element of "what you see is what you get" and the administration will be less than perfect. However, these shows usually have stated objectives, so Gellert gives a proportion of his surplus to a named charity and Harry funds his community theatre. Then the relevant insurance and food hygiene certificates are available for inspection. Then exhibitors are actually paid their agreed expenses. There is a feeling at their shows that the organiser is not out to maximise his own profit come what may. This all means that I am disinclined to attend a show presented by either "DD Productions" of by an Unknown MRS, either as an exhibitor or as a punter. I wonder whether Dibben, as a trader, has taken out third party insurance. So I am also dubious about attending any show at which he is trading. Should I take the risk, however small, that I may incur an injury not covered by insurance? Bill
  4. Morning awl, Yesterday was spent concreting at Mike's. We got about half way through the job so will continue tomorrow. Until I have to leave for a concert at the RFH. Friday will be spent in a hot bath. Keep well all. Bill
  5. I suffer from a pigeon / dove that sits on my chimney stack, sticks its head down a chimney and intones "K - Kooo Koo" ad infinitum. Can anyone send a brace of red kites to SE12? Please!! Bill
  6. And I take my BP before my morning caffeine. Puts about 10 on the reading. And take 2 or 3 readings - your stress levels may go down. Bill
  7. Nothing from GDB today. Hope this is over celebration of the Welsh victory, rather than a trauma issue. I loved the last Welsh try - just the sort of try that I used to score, loitering with intent. Keep well all, especially Andrew P. So you have a follow up appointment? Bill
  8. Evening awl & sundry, Does anyone know how to block an individual post? I'm referring to #173904. It may be painted blue, but you can't fool me. Survived Deanery Synod. I've been elected to Diocesan Synod for yet another triennial. Then listed to the test match whilst stripping some twin & earth cable. These are for the busbars for the "last great project". Keep well all, Bill Edit - #173928 as well, now I'm seeing double!
  9. Debs, Nice to have you back. Awl the rest of us, behave!! Bill
  10. Gellert, Well done. But take your own first aid kit, you may find the bandages in the church kit are just a teeny weeny bit out of date. Also a luggage label with the church's post code attached to the kit - just in case you have an emergency and need to ring 999. Bill
  11. Gellert, It might not be a bad idea to advise people that a Food Hygiene Certificate and an Insurance Certificate will be available for inspection. And that you have no links with a certain Dakota Dibben (briefly of this parish). Sorry, I won't be with you - setting up an exhibition in Birmingham. Bill
  12. John, how about taking a Segway to the Arundel Exhibition, and if you happen to knock over a layout, we will find out whether there is insurance cover. Bill
  13. Apologies to hijack once again - 'Earls Court' was very good, and I approve highly of the bomb codes at the end - genius! 'Lewisham' looks interesting too... I saw mention of Christ's Hospital earlier on and am now even more interested. Sem, slightly puzzled but why the reference to 'Lewisham'? Are you referring to a layout? Just that I would be interested, being pretty local. Bill
  14. evening all, A few hours at Mike's clearing the ground for his greenhouse, until the rain set in. Shopping, then home. I have a ticket for the RFH tomorrow, Rattle with his Berlin ensemble playing Bruckner 9 with the fourth movement constructed from the composer's workings. I find completions an interesting topic. The Mozart mass was just the last couple of pages. Mahler wrote out a complete melodic line, then for the 10th Symphony had orchestrated the first movement and most of another; so Cooke et al had to orchestrate three movements, and have done a fine job. Elgar jotted down a few tunes for his 3rd Symphony: Payne has done a reasonable job in fleshing in out and it is officially known as "Edward Elgar: the sketches for Symphony No 3 elaborated by Anthony Payne" but I would prefer to see it billed as a "Symphony by Anthony Payne on themes by Edward Elgar". Which leads to the Bruckner 9. He was a "messy" composer so the reconstructors had to work out what to include or exclude. Then some pages have disappeared and Bruckner hadn't started the coda before he died. But because Bruckner was a numerologist, we know the exact number of bars there should be. The missing pages were not too difficult to reconstruct and the coda has been composed following the same logic as the 8th. Strangely only a few conductors, including Rattle, play the final movement. Perhaps I will find out tomorrow , expect a report. Another topic. We have a by election next month in East Lewisham. From the blizzard of election material, it is a three way marginal between Conservative, Lib Dem and UKIP. The general election was Labour 68%, Conservative 23%. Lib Dem 5%, rest 4%. Methinks it is a scrap for second place, which may even be nicked by the Green Party (although reviewing the post I recollect that the Greens are stronger in West Lewisham). And I know the Labour candidate through her church - lovely lass. Keep well all, Bill
  15. 'Spose you would want me in Lederhosen? Bill
  16. Morning all, Very quick as I'm off to Mike to prepare the ground for his greenhouse - it's a shuttering and rubble day; between the showers. Quid pro quo for helping to build 14 baseboards. I'm sartorially inelegant. Short, fat hairy legs, bull neck, so no point in dressing up. I haven't owned a suit in the last 20 years and have never owned an overcoat. Formal wear is chinos, shirt and pullover; informal (as now) shorts and t-shirt. But I scrub up for St John duties, even polish the boots! Baz, so you red carded two girls? Chris, Bank Holidays are meaningless once you have retired; I hadn't realised until next door fired up the BBQ. Dom, playing with a Crompton? Keep well all, Bill
  17. Tony, From a very small sample (small enough to invoke the Student-t test) we found digital Cobalts to be more reliable than analogue Cobalts. Even so, I'm reverting to analogue for the last great project. First, I don't want to be faffing around under a layout during an exhibition; second, I don't want a motor to lose its digital address during an exhibition. So, surface mounted servos hidden in sheds and outhouses with Scalefour Society cranks. I think, Tony, on a home layout that I would prefer Tortoises to Cobalts. But very much a personal opinion. Bill
  18. Peter, I've been called many things in my life, but never Bob. Funny thing at Lord's - we were swapping with another team so I gave them a wave, and a very attractive young lady came over and gave me a huge hug! Bill (not Bob)
  19. Oh and parking was not an issue. Thanks for reserving me a place just outside the door. Andy Andy, it seems you had my parking spot, just because I had to miss a year ..... See you on 16th June? Bill
  20. Evening all, Finished at Lords about 5pm. We have to wait because the bars stayed open and then I had to track down the 24 SJA radios. If I had been around, I might have been involved in out PAT debate; I'm a tautologist and call myself a PAT tester. However at church, I don't "read" the Epistle but say: "The epistle is taken from the letter of Paul to the Whomsoevers....." Sorry I missed some of you at Railex, keep well all Bill
  21. Evening all, A long day at Lord's, thanks to gentlemen (and ladies) over partaking of alcoholic beverages. At one point, I was thrown the key to the First Aid Room. I caught it! A bucket list tick, I was in the Long Room today!! An extraordinary number of celebrities were spotted today - plus some politicians! Can't give names, as that would break both Lord's and SJA confidentiality rules. Day 3 tomorrow, with a 6:45 start. Bill
