  1. hi Graham, i'll answer this over the weekend if thats ok? as for the OO one, recent thoughts and a visit up north to photograph and measure the real thing has left me with a slight dilema. 1) internally there is a lot more detail than maybe most of us think. so do i model it? well yes, but in all honesty, the best way would be in etched brass and steel to give the full relief detail, as does the underside as well. so best do it right huh? 2) does the model need close coupling? yes it does or at least a shorter shank coupler fitted as standard to bring the gap down. 3) does the model need soft spring buffers? i'm not sure and am asking you all your thoughts? it\s it a novelty on a wagon, or does a true soft spring buffer appeal? and 4) i have drawn up a compenated suspension system for the wagon and would like to incorporate it. do you think it's worth it? (it might add a quid to a quid 50 to each wagon) so again, over to you. Advantages and disadvantages 5) the wagon will have a coal load moulded with my easy lift magnetic system for removal on track to run empty if required. so, over to you all, i'll gladly take on board your thoughts regarding this. Novelty or Needed? cheers Dave
  2. 3 inches! 3 blinking inches.........no laughing at the back. i've asked a member of this forum to check over the king cad/cam with me, and we are slightly squeezed on the length of both the body, and the tender. its scales at roughly 3 inches over sized at 12 inches to the foot) for both, which is obviously not good. so the engineer in the factory is re-checking measurements against the 2D and original 3D laser scan to see where this has come about and to see if its only for length and not height and width. He's (the engineer) also put the capuchon 90 degrees to what it should on top of the chimney. but thats an easy fix, luckily.and i do not know how that simple error crept in, but thats what checking is for. I've also noticed that theres more gap under the frames above the bogie than i would like so that will need a bit of remedial. All the bogie detail looks superb on the cad/cam though, but i'd rather show a more complete model as the first one shown here. fingers crossed the cad/cam will arrive over the weekend or early next week to give a Bank Holiday boost, irrispective of the weather this weekend. Update as soon as i know, but i would think tooling is not far away now (yes i know, fingers crossed etc etc). chers Dave
  3. Why thank you, much appreciated. Who's running away from the thread? Not me, im just saying that its now a pretty dead issue, its not going to happen under the original ideas, if at all so what is the point of it carrying on? if you have a magic wand that would ressurect i'm sure we would all like to hear it. nobody is out of pocket except myself and Kernow, and of course its dissapointing, so why do you have an issue? The floor is yours.
  4. Hi Andy, Just to thank you for this and i can clarify that all invoices will now have this info on them, no matter the product. (APT, King etc) cheers Dave
  5. Hi mate, Sorry, i'm in need of more coffee as i missed that. However in mitigation, clarity on the situation is here below in this mail which i have tried to add to every main posting i have made on the OO and N gauge projects, each invoice that goes out now, my website and DToS web site starting from yesterday. I hope it helps clarify things. Cheers Dave Please note this is a DJM crowdfunding project and DJM will be invoicing, designing, and finally supplying the finished model and is therefore totally responsible for your investment. Also: Please Note: Any 'pure' crowdfunding venture is an investment with no guarantee of return, and your invested capital (deposit payments) are at risk. Please consider carefully whether you wish to partake in this venture before ordering.
  6. Hi mate, I understand, but as mentioned on said thread, it's a different factory alltogether, a well known and respected one, and i have also mentioned i am using other factories as well now, and hunting more even as far away as India. Please PM me your order number / invoice number and i'll cancel it off for you. cheers dave
  7. Hi, good points but do you really think either the UK or China as a whole is the slightest bit interestd in model trains? i personally doubt it. and 2k here and there isnt going to start a trade war of sanctions between the 2 is it? it happens, its happened before and will certainly happen again. There is History if you look hard enough with various companies, and manufacturers. if Hornby announce a 74, then good luck to them, and it would be a shame if i didnt get one to market. Please remember that i am using other factories now, and they are eager to please, which is nice and is looking very productive at the moment. And payments for the crowdfunding models is staged, not whole so at least somethings visibly tangible with each deposit payment. I think, rather than get bogged down answering mails on this, i'm going to leave it alone for a week, and then review it with a possibility of asking Andy to lock the thread as its done and dusted now, and nothing new can come from it. if things then subsequently change i can start another thread afresh with 'Class 74 mk2' cheers Dave
  8. Hi, I thought this has been clarified (vice responsibility, liability etc) in todays updates on my website, and here? along with the definition, in this case of crowdfunding and the risk involved with a request that knowing this info, any prospective crowdfunders consider the risks involved before committing. am i missing something? cheers dave
  9. Hi mate, Sorry i dont understand your first question. are you asking me to supply you links to the info about other companies who have suffered the same like this in one way or another? If so, no, but you can search easily enough, it's out there. Anyway, i was referring to 'form' as in history, geezer....... ;-) As for the 71 tooling, no it's not technically worse at all, as the tooling is catalogued, listed, has DJM as the owner engraved on each one, plus my contact details, and i have a valid letter of ownership from the factory. HMRC lists the tooling as a company asset, and allows me to write down the tooling as normal. At this time, the 71 is still a DJM owned tool. However, it is true to say that as these things will always concern me, as i like to be cautious, this is why not all my eggs are in the same basket, as i have 2 other well known and respected factories also doing work for me, and my recent trip to India looks to be bearing fruit as well. Hope this helps, cheers Dave
  10. They will, if i wanted the cad/cam etc hold them to ransom, as thats their way im afraid, even if they had a spurt on and completed it. However as they had done nothing of any tangible work on it in all that time, its basically money p'd up the wall and gone. they could flog it off to another, but the chassis would need developing as the class 71 was to donate the chassis. there is documented 'form' of this happening with China production and other model railway companies worldwide, and you either pay and eat the bill, or you lose. luckily, i cannot say i've lost anything except a 4 figure sum for the cad development, which in itself is bad enough though. edited for fat finger trouble.
  11. moving things on slightly, in the new X-Trains magazine, theres a lovely picture of set 005 leading through Lancaster, i think, with driving car, first buffet, power car, power car, and 5 coaches plus driving car. ( page 10 + 11 ) looks a little out of balance, formation wise, but a cracking pic nonetheless. cheers Dave
  12. Hi Roy, To fess up, this has only been up an hour or so, along with a note on my web site etc to make how the funding is an investment etc and the risk involved and asking potential customer to consider this risk before ordering. I've had some T&C on my web site pertinent to crowdfunding for about a month now though, but no one has noticed it. Quite right everyone, we should have made everything clearer, and hopefully we have now give some way into making it so. If anyone can think of something to elaborate further then please PM me and i'll take a look. Also please note, i have now amended the T&C on invoices for future use to warn of the 'investment and risk' before making a commitment to sign up and purchase one. I hope this will clear matters up accordingly. To answer the question of why monies were asked for so early, was to give customers a chance to raise the funds, and as some have still not paid, it seems like a great decision. The 3D laser scanning will need paying almost immediately, and this will not be cheap. So the investment starts with that process, and the scanning party at Crewe. From then the project accelerates along, with 2-3 weeks later getting working 3D complete models to send to China. In the meantime china will get payment for producing the cad/cam, and a P.O. will be issues to secure motors and other outsourced components. for the models. Hope this helps, i can only apologise for all the confusion and no doubt there will still need a straightening of the lines to clarify a few things which i'll do as quickly as possible. Press releases will also go out to magazines to state the clarified terms & conditions, and DJM's total involvement in the project. Cheers Dave
  13. yes indeed your missing something. lol dont worry as many do. the tooling would have been paid for, but only that. not the shipping, import duty, unit costs, ep samples, painted samples etc. so although the tooling was covered, it needed more orders to actually manufacture the model. however, its all moot if the development was so protracted and ultimately a let down. but like i say, to use a famous railway quote, 'perchance it is not death, merely sleepeth'. hope this helps cheers dave
  14. Windows....2 sizes Grilles both sides Bogie alterations Fuel tank / battery box Roof grill Roof panels Side window filling Bagpipes Amongst others, I’m afraid to say.
  15. The 74 was successfully crowdfunded to tooling stage, that wasn’t the problem. Progress, or lack of, was the problem.
  16. Hi everyone, Sorry if this is the wrong place to post but I am after a 400ml Tin of BR Gloss maroon paint (or larger) to paint a stand on my trade stand into corporate colours. Anyone know where I can get paint in these sized tins for brushing , not spray, please? Cheers Dave
  17. All DJM stockists who have ordered. Cheers Dave
  18. Hi Bill, If you don’t receive items you have paid for, you basically lose the monies paid (simplistic I know as there are acceptions). This is the same for cad/cams or work from China. In recent years we have seen hold outs from factories in China that I am pretty sure certain companies had air tight contracts with, where tooling gets held to ransom, as that company wishes to move the tooling to another factory, work that’s promised and not done etc. They won’t work on credit, so you have no choice but to pay an agreed sum, whether it is a tooling release fee, or a cad/cam. Although getting to that position where you have to consider the ‘nuclear’ option is a real pain, it has and does happen. It’s getting a refund on work paid for that’s almost impossible. It’s worth remembering the culture too, and getting to this option, will not ‘save face’ with the factory / designer. Working a solution that ‘saves face’ is a huge problem, and usually takes cash, hard cash. Cheers Dave
  19. Hi, Only the 74 is in abayance. Progress on the 92 continues. I’ll have some updates over the coming 10 days on all products so keep an eye out. Cheers Dave
  20. Hi everyone, Please find here the finished ? cad/cam for the revised shark ballast plough. Of note the roof chimney as this was needed and felt easier to remove than add at a later date, and also i've modelled it at its highest height that i can find so that modellers who want to model one to the correct height for their period, region etc can just snip a bit off if required. Also i have taken the opportunity to alter the handrails from moulded on ones to separately attached as i think they will look much better. The internal windows including the ducket ones are all glazed by the way. The revised tooling will start within 24 hours unless someone thinks i've left something off.....like a 3rd axle etc. lol cheers Dave
  21. My costs are for the development, the finished cad/cam which never came, research, and my time. This is lost now but is the risk you take. Nobody expected this to be such a prolonged development that eventually just stagnated for various reasons beyond my control. The model had in fact covered its tooling costs, as a lot of development was done on the twin sister (yes I know) class 71 which would have been the chassis etc. Anyone can take the project on, but if I can get the model cad/cam designed within a decent timeframe to a standard I can show you all, then maybe, just maybe, it’s a slow burner which might yet, like the Phoenix, rise from the ashes. Cheers Dave
  22. The 74 was fully crowdfunded! Also mails for sending out the press release passed in the ether so Chris’s went live first. Apologies
  23. Hi everyone, to clarify this all........ The class 74 is not dead, but it’s on hold for an indeterminate period. Due to problems getting it designed it was felt wrong to prolong the amount of time customers monies were kept in ‘limbo’ without any real progress. So Kernow, who were handling the monies for this project on the back of the class 71, and DJM, decided that refunding / crediting customers was the most proactive way forward in this respect before things dragged out longer. Kernow have, in my opinion, been very good about this as they have lost monies through cancellation charge backs etc, and our relationship is still as strong as ever. The class 74 will, I hope come to fruition, but in all honesty it won’t be for a while yet (and no I won’t be drawn on the ‘while’ timeline) This also leaves not only Kernow, but DJM out of pocket, having paid charge back fees and for cad/cams and various design work and research. But these things happen, and you just get on with things, and it’s the way you deal with these things that matters. I’m sorry that there are customers that will be disappointed, I truly am, and if things change round i’ll let you all know here and on my web site. Cheers Dave
  24. APT Press release Dear Modeller, As we get closer to the APT scanning party on the 2nd June at Crewe Heritage Centre, we can now tie down the 'shut down' date of Crowdfunding orders. This will be May 30th at 11.59pm After this date and time it will still be possible to order all APT versions but each set will then cost a higher RRP. The prices listed below only affect new non existing crowdfunded orders from the 31st May onwards. Existing crowdfunders will still be able to top up their order with new orders at the original Crowdfunders price until tooling starts, and this date will be advised at a later date. Set 001 will rise from £699.95 to £ 933.27 Set 002 will rise from £649.95 to £ 866.60 Set 003 will rise from £749.95 to £ 999.93 Set 004 will rise from £749.95 to £ 999.93 Set 006 will rise from £895.95 to £1,194.60 Set 007 will rise from £995.95 to £1,327.94 The raised price will be in effect until tooling is started. Once tooling has started the order book will close permanently. Please note this is a DJM crowdfunding project and DJM will be invoicing, designing, and finally supplying the finished model and is therefore totally responsible for your investment. Also: Please Note: Any 'pure' crowdfunding venture is an investment with no guarantee of return, and your invested capital (deposit payments) are at risk. Please consider carefully whether you wish to partake in this venture before ordering.
  25. I understand not, but I can see your logic.
