  1. I am alive and aching. Hoping that the oramorph will make some difference. They did it via a spinal rather than ga in the end and I ended up with sedation when I could still feel the surgeon's drill through the nerve blockers! Back on the ward as Natalie says. A little numb from the waist down which is causing a few issues, but nothing unmanageable. Feels good to have had a sandwich and a hot chocolate. Very little choice later in the evening on the ward. I think there's a plate in the ankle, possibly both sides and one on the fibula. But I will know for sure when I hopefully see the consultant at some point tomorrow.
  2. The swelling has mostly gone by now. The consultant said me just now and apologised for the delay, saying covid made it somewhat out of his control as he puts me on the list and then he's at the mercy of the theatre being available when he gets to me. The last few days there's been quite a few emergency surgeries taking priority over everything delaying a lot of his surgeries. Said hopefully today, but it depending upon the theatre being available when he gets to me on the list (whilst covid positive in isolation, always end of the list regardless). But equally it could be over the weekend. So potentially another day or another dew days and my ankle might have the metalwork in it it needs...
  3. Thanks for the well wishes. I want to first say I cannot fault the nursing care I have received. The problem lies in the communication between theatre and the ward. The fact that I have covid also is a significant factor. Having covid means I'm always going to be last on the list until the covid isolation (Tues) is over. Being last on the list means a single emergency case requiring the theatre bumps me off the list currently. This is what has been happening since Saturday in effect. The other problem is that the doctors don't come talk to me so I don't get any chance to talk about the options available etc. Last time I saw anyone was a surgeon on Sunday. If they came to see me I'd be telling them not to book me until Wednesday when I'll no longer be in covid isolation and can go anywhere on the list and more likely to get the surgery done. Today they were close, but a appendix took the theatre slot before they could come get me. Same thing yesterday.
  4. After a few more days of nbm waiting for surgery I've today been told it is happening fairly soon. Any minute now I should have people coming to take me down for surgery.
  5. Another day, another nbm. Joy. i slept mostly ok. It seems that some nurses interpretation of nbm varies from one to another as some were insisting that i take my usual oral medication, whilst others have been adamant that nothing at all is allowed. The inconsistency is a bit confusing! Anyway, currently waiting to see if anything happens today. I am rather doubtful tbh. Oh and apparently once you tested positive they don't test you again and you have to spend a given time period on the covid designated ward, not sure how long that is, maybe 10 days? Nothing much else other than the poppy photo from Richard this morning.
  6. Thanks. Unfortunately covid is treated the same as if I had mrsa or cliff. As a result I cannot be anywhere other than last on the list. The only way I could be higher on the list now is if I return a negative test result, but I think it may need to be 3 negative tests. Which would be a minimum of a extra week waiting if they waited for that.
  7. Well, surprising surprising, they've cancelled the surgery again. So far the past two days I've only had sandwiches. I am now feeling too nauseous to want to eat. Feeling fed up with the cancellations. Supposed to be tomorrow now, but I will believe it when it happens. Being covid positive means they have to deep clean the or after me. This effectively means I can only be at the end of the list for each day until I'm not covid positive, I assume I'll probably get a covid test tomorrow, but until then last on each list and any emergency patient will bump me off the list. If they cancel again I am minded to just refuse the surgery as I am not going to be wanting to be nbm for 5 days straight. 4 will be bad enough. I have been kept nbm since 2am every day apart from Thursday last week since Wednesday. Anyway, to brighten the tone a bit more pictures of poppy, which has been a big reason keeping me going in recent days. Poppy is laying where most days at Richard's I'd be sitting.
  8. I've now been moved to another ward. The bay in the previous ward was nice and quiet I have a feeling this one could be noisy. Oh well nothing to be done about it. Still feel relatively fine aside from a mild headache (not unusual for me) and a aching leg.
  9. No idea now. Until I come back with a negative test they'll have to do it in full hazmat gear, so they might well not put me on the list as they'd have to deep clean the theatre after me unless I was very last on the list.
  10. Oh joy as if things were not annoying enough. The nurses have just told me that the last covid swab came back positive so have to move wards and it is probably why today's surgery was cancelled. I don't really have much in the way of symptoms. I feel fine for the most part.
  11. Each morning Richard has been sending photos of poppy. Which has been a real help.
  12. Thanks for the well wishes. I'm being looked after well by the nurses, who have all been great. No complaints there. The first cancellation was due to doing two lists due to a consultant going sick and I was not put on the list until Thursday as a result. Yesterday's cancellation was due to too many on the list. As was today's. Apparently they're known to not twll the wards until the last minute, meaning patients routinely are left nbm longer than needed. The staff despair about it and seemingly nothing changes as the theatre sisters seem unconcerned about it. Tomorrow's surgery is dependent upon how many emergency cases come in overnight. Unfortunately whilst I came in as an emergency and the first surgery was last Saturday, the following surgery is deemed elective now. To make matters worse today the physiotherapists insisted on getting me out of bed. Which I managed. But not without difficulties or pain. It seems I hurt my right ankle too as there's quite a bit of bruising, but I expect at worse it is a sprain or more likely just a twist. The gravity effects on my left leg required oramorph when I got back into bed. The fibromyalgia fatigue not helping matters either. Otherwise I'm in good generally health aside from some tmi stuff Wednesday and Thursday which I won't go into here.
  13. Being well looked after thanks. The staff are great. Fairly safe as I'm confined to bed currently. Have had a visit from the doctor who was happy with progress and all goes well I should have the plate fitted tomorrow, depending upon how the ankle looks when they come inspect it. In the meantime I'm keeping it elevated and while uncomfortable it isn't horrible most of the time until the fibromyalgia decided to have a say in the matter. But there's oramorph available as needed. As for the food. I didn't get much Friday due to being nbm from 2am for Saturday surgery. But the food Saturday and Sunday were OK, the Sunday food better. Yesterday's was OK. The choices can be hit or miss whether I can have them however. But been able to have enough to keep satisfied. Will be nbm again tonight so no breakfast tomorrow. Breakfast options have mostly been porridge, cereal and toast. I am missing sausages!
  14. Morning all. I hope everyone is well? Sympathies and best wishes if not. Today is day 5 stuck in hospital. Though as I came in late Friday evening I guess it will technically be day 4 in terms of full days. Anyway... No real change to the ankle/leg. Still aches like a , though the pain medication helps. My back remains unhappy about laying on my back for so long, usually I'd lay and sleep on my side which is not so easy in a hospital bed with an elevated leg. There are other things, but they're I think TMI to post here and certainly before breakfast. Nothing major, but hopefully they'll resolve soon. Otherwise another day of boredom ahead probably!
  15. Most of the time with tvs they're sent to a testing company and if unrepairable they throw them in a skip and the customer just gets a new one or equivalent value model. Richard took poppy out for a walk to distract himself from the past few days and worrying about me etc. Poppy enjoyed the muddy puddles. She got a bath when they got home. Misson accomplished for her as she gets a rice bone for being good in the bath. I think she might have been training us all this time... Anyway I got sent a couple of photos from Richard of a rather tired and content poppy with a lovely silky smooth coat. Attached below.
  16. Scandinavian black and death metal became rather popular a few years back. Along with symphonic metal, with a number of Scandinavian bands going with the style.
  17. It will of course vary across countries. But yes. The item in the uk has to be fit for purpose. You have more rights if you buy online rather than in a shop, though manufacturer defects should always be covered. Some exceptions do exist however. Customised items don't qualify for the same protection on online shopping for instance.
  18. Some stores still do require original packaging. The reason is because they send it back to me the distributor who charge for each missing item. So to avoid the extra costs they reject incomplete returns and ask for the missing bits to be sent in.
  19. Surgery provisionally booked for Wednesday now. At least I know what the plan is. Now to rest up and wait until dinner arrives.
  20. Sounds pretty sensible. My parents had to do similar and needed my brother to go get stuff down for them. My father had stashed all sorts of things up there!
  21. An update on the ongoing saga of my leg and ankle. Just had one of the doctors come talk to me. Looking like surgery is going to be Wednesday as long as they're happy with the swelling. In the meantime I need to stay in bed with foot elevated, which is making my back hurt. But have had some oramorph so not all bad.
  22. Have had a pillow put under the knee. So far not making much improvement. Trouble is that the fibromyalgia is starting to get involved with things after the excitement of the last few days i was probably likely to get a flare up. At least they can help with pain relief.
  23. I suspect that the western powers will try and persuade Ukraine to accept some things they won't like. It will be a bit of trying to calm two angry enraged bears to some extent. But there are negotiators that are very skilled and I'm sure some of them have experience enough to get at least a ceasefire at first which will be a important first step.
  24. I rather suspect the western nations will do all they possibly can to ensure they can get a peaceful solution as they will be well aware of what the potential is for Europe and the world if they get dragged into more than sanctions and aid. The EU was originally founded from the idea of trying to prevent European wars and it mostly has worked for that purpose. The only European conflicts have been outside of the eu at the time. Hopefully Russia can be offered some way to save face and feel less paranoid. A paranoid nuclear power is not something any sane person would ever want to see! Hopefully calm will prevail at some point if they can get a agreement on peace talk location and keep them at the table.
  25. Thanks Barry. Slept off and on as my knee and ankle were not happy. My knee doesn't like the ankle needing to be elevated so it's been quite painful. Oramorph helped at least. Some of my medication arrived finally yesterday but not yet all of it. It was a Sunday so I expect nothing much happens fast on a Sunday there! The digital systems at least means they know all that my usual pharmacy and gp surgery know including all my repeat medication that I don't always order every month. They got me a brown inhaler at least which is good as Richard couldn't find one when putting a bag together for me in a hurry Friday.
