  12. The Swedish Y6 type were in design inspired by the HNJ NOHAB railbusses, which were an answer by NOHAB to the popular Hilding Carlsson railbusses of the 1930's. Both Hilding Carlsson and Marstaverken produced similar steel rail busses in the late 1940's however the Y6 class are a SJ design and were built by a number of builders.
  13. I believe that there were drawings in Allt om Hobby in the past and possibly in other Swedish magazines. Please pm me if you would like me to have a look Patrick
  14. Another and very visible difference between US and Canadian practice was the regulation on hygene grounds that stock cars had to be whitewashed for hygiene reasons - hence the white lower sides of Canadian stock cars.
  15. Many of the Class 1 railroads in the past leased / sold surplus or out dated power to various short lines and there are a number of models which are "classic" short line locos in the early diesel era the Bachmann 44tonner being the most common, as they were in a class where less crew were required and as many industries liked locos in this class they were relatively cheap to buy.
  16. North American spurs can just end in the dirt somewhere, sometimes a couple of old sleepers are used as a wheel stop and there are something called wheel stops which are a device bolted to the track ( https://www.shapeways.com/product/XWZARFY94/wheel-stops-ho-20-pack-c83 ). . Track bumpers (buffer stops) as far as I can tell are mainly used where coming off the track could be embarrassing such as on to a highway or down an embankment. Patrick
  17. Jerry, In terms of locomotives and even more cabooses North American railroads tended to use their own power, though from the late 50's (I believe) you began to get run through diesel power. The other thing that does happen is that locos can be leased by another road such as the Bangor & Aroostook Railroad GP7's which were leased to the Pennsylvania Railroad every summer when the BAR did not need them and the PRR did. In terms of freight cars, they are all effectively in a common user pool, so can turn up almost anywhere, but would be most common on the owning railroad and direct connections. If you can get hold of a copy there is a NMRA book called "The Postwar Freight Car Fleet" it has a good sample of what was going through the Harrisburg Pennsylvania area in 1946/47, of interest is that there were still a lot of 36' cars in service at the time and some lasted for some time (Canadian Fowler box cars were in revenue service in Canada until the 1980;s). Patrick
  18. You could try John Tiechmoller's book on PRR hoppers - Pennsylvania Railroad Steel Open Hopper Cars - A Guide for Enthusiasts for a detailed look at the class. Basic information is available at http://prr.railfan.net/freight/classpage.html?class=H21
  19. Nick You could try this stencil from shapeways https://www.shapeways.com/product/LSTG9YTAC/railroad-crossing-template-ho?optionId=63326386&li=marketplace Patrick
  20. Jamie, Why not try contacting the NMRA British Region, someone may well have something suitable - I had charge of a 1970's exhibition layout called 'Avery' for a few years, it is now in the Derby area. Patrick
  21. The reason that we did not have that many trains running on the large American yesterday is that the DCC control bus decided to go down which we eventually managed to trace to a dry joint in a connector cable. Of course the fault only appeared yesterday during the show and not while we were testing the layout.....
  22. Nick, Its a K's kit. For some reason they used to include it in the kit for the Swedish Z class shunter? Cheers Patrick
