  1. C'mon, be fair - it does come with a travel box.
  2. I thought the ones to the left looked to be permanently "plumbed in" & hence for storage rather than in traffic. After 45 years I wouldn't be able to remember in any detail, even if I'd taken that much notice at the time! The one to the right obviously was in traffic as it doesn't show in another photo taken from virtually the same spot the previous day. Impossible to say if the two to the left were there on that occasion as they'd be obscured behind D5369 in the BRCW photos above. Graham
  3. The continuing story. I replied with a simple, tongue-in-cheek: <quote> Hmmmm . . . . Not sure that Trading Standards would agree with you on that! <unquote> which must have caused a degree of unintentioned consternation as it generated the following: <quote> Thank you for your comment. By all means please give our listing and contact details to Trading Standards. If they can advise us of the BS or ISO standards that define course and fine scale as absolutes and that to which this Lima track is compliant we will happily change the listing. We can't find anything more than subjective descriptions of the same. The turn outs excluded the track pieces are closer in appearance to Peco finescale than Hornby Mecanno course scale track. However we would welcome guidance from the better informed, or indeed you, should you choose to be helpful in any future communication. If not, we thank you for your time and wait to hear from Trading Standards, although we are doubtful of their interest as we are not seeking to profit from deliberately mis-describing or mis-selling an item - quite the opposite in fact, but thank you again for your concern. -from_fire_and_flames <unquote> Admittedly it would have been easier to follow if "fire_and_flames" had replied in English, but I think the gist is that they don't think much of my questioning their listing! If anyone else would like to join in, please feel free to do so!
  4. Well, that was quick. Reply as follows: <quote> Hi It is all finscale as it refers to the size of the rails. Thanks -from_fire_and_flames <unquote> So now we know.
  5. I've just emailed to ask which bits are "finescale". Will post any reply I may (or may not!) get. Graham
  6. As suggested, here are the BRCW Sulzer photos. 4th September, 1966 - D5358 on Fort William MPD Keeping it company on the same day, D5369 5th September - D5334 not far from Kyle of Lochalsh, with an interesting collection of vehicles in tow. And finally, 6th September 1966 - D5324 stands in Kyle station as the mist swirls around. Sorry that the quality isn't of the highest standard, but they were taken a long time ago, I was little more than a kid and the equipment I had was hardly "state of the art". Hope you find something of interest amongst them. Graham (with thanks to Tesco for putting Old Thumper & Exmoor Beast on special offer!)
  7. OK, 4 BRCW photos to follow in a few minutes. I think you'll like at least a couple of them. Regarding the "true HBS" - I'm afraid that's the only one. In 1966 I was an impecunious student (in fact, I was still in the 6th form, so in those days that made me a "schoolboy" rather than a "student"). Don't forget, film - especially colour - was expensive and not to be wasted and steam was fast disappearing . . . . I'll see what I can dig out for the Cathedrals of Power thread, but it may not be immediately - I've got a lot going on at the moment! Are we talking just diesel, or is steam acceptable? Also, for Carlisle are we looking solely at Canal (in which case I know I've got nothing) or are you including Kingmoor & Upperby? Graham
  8. And what about those old oil tank wagons, extreme left, being used for fuel storage? The more I look at my old photos from that time, the more I think that almost anything goes!
  9. Having only just come across this thread, I hope you gents won't be too upset if I post a couple of photos I took way back in 1966. First, D7611 on Fort William MPD on 5th September. 2 days later, 7th September, D5126 stands at Inverness station. Hope these may be of some interest. Is this the place to post a couple of photos of their BRCW cousins? Graham
  10. Am I missing something here? http://tinyurl.com/5ve5mw2 Sounds a bit excessive . . . . Ooops, sorry - just noticed it's already been posted.

  12. The two departmentals, No.s 84 & 86, must have been uncharacteristically active that day if you saw them at both York and Neville Hill . . . .

  14. http://tinyurl.com/3qkvone Just one more of many from the Cumbrian Coast. Why does anyone ever buy anything at these prices? Life was so much better when this area was still part of Lancashire!
